if you have sheryl crow's arms, do not read this.

i just put on the first short sleeve t shirt in a while and these were
not the arms that i saw.

she does take guitar lessons from me, though.

i have enrolled in spring boot camp to try and make myself fit
and presentable.   the daily exercise and healthy diet hasn't  been
too hard.   well, if you think denying myself sugar while craving
it at all times, isn't too hard.

honestly, if scripture were sugar, i would have the entire bible
memorized.  i know His words "are sweeter than honey from
the comb," but I WANT SUGAR!!!!!!!  (psalm 19:10)

desperate times call for desperate measures, so here is my recipe
for a "mock chocolate milkshake."

-one frozen banana cut into small pieces
-1/2 cup milk
-1 T. chocolate syrup
-1 packet of equal (i wanted to put in 5 packets)

mix in a blender until it looks like a milk shake and drink it
really fast.  the cold headache authenticates the experience.

would you please give me your best pretend dessert recipe?

desperately seeking sugar,
lea

I have no pretend recipes because I go for the hard stuff (real sugar) when it comes to sweets. But I do have a set of weights under my coffee table that I am just sure I'm going to start using this week...or next.

Most all celebrities are vain and
conceited people who have no idea
of the joy found in knowing Jesus
Christ. They do everything to make
their bodies look great because
they worship themselves instead of
God. We don't have to compare ourselves to them in any way. Eat right, do the best you can, only have sweets now and then and make peace with your body--whatever it looks like. You are the temple of the Holy Spirit of God. What could be better?
I appreciate your sense of humor.
I just think this is a serious
thing that many women,even Christians,
fall into and never get out of.

Okay my best pretend recipe, is take frozen blueberries and mix with vanilla yogurt, diet of course and eat with a spoon. It is sort of like ice cream. I also use strawberries and they are coming in season. Or another favorite. Take a chocolate graham cracker and 1 tablespoon of fat free cool whip and make a sandwich and wrap them up and freeze and then eat or just eat them without freezing they are pretty good when the cool whip gets a bit soft and you bite it and it squishes out.
I eat the blueberries and yogurt until I get my body off of sugar. It really does help.
Cool going to boot camp. I wish you luck. I am glad it is still cold, I am afraid my arms will look like Popeye's. :) without the tattoo.
I cleaned my chicken pen today and I am such a weakling so I need a boot camp.

Teeeeheeee! I KNOW WHATCHA MEAN! I combat that with GRAPES! They keep my skin clear and I GOBBLE THEM UP, guilt free. Oh Lea, thank you for coming to visit my post today. I am so grateful for life..be well and eat just a little sugar and WORK OUT A TON!!!! Anita Look for some JUICY GRAPES

This made me laugh. By no means do I have arms like Sheryl Crow's, but I will say the dreaded Shake Weight seems to be working. I don't really have any fake desserts because it seems like the fake sugar perpetuates a craving for the real thing (now, there's a spritual lesson!), but I do find pink grapefruit to be a good treat.

That made me grin. My increasingly aged arms are doing things I didn't know arms did!

Secret recipes? I don't have anything formal, but I do know that Stevia makes everything better. I use it on fresh fruit, topped with Lite Whipped Cream. Or, you can add it to oatmeal along with craisens & fresh diced apple (tart ones work best).

I've also grown very fond of Dreyer's No Sugar Added ice cream - - "Fudge Tracks" being my fav.

Blessings,
Kathleen

Oh my favorite diet cold beverage is made with an orange, ice, splenda, and a half a cup of milk. Whip it all up in a blender and enjoy!

My arms are far from that too! I have given up sugar for lent, and it only makes me want it more. What's up with that? Carla

No pretend recipes from me .. I'm into life in all its reality and ignore the flab as best I can :-) Off for a bush walk now wearing a short sleeved top ... we are having a burst of late warmth.

i hardly eat sugar and i still don't have sheryl crow's arms, LOL! but as i grow older, i realize there are so many other things i would rather do (i too have some weights which i hardly use). as ralph waldo emerson puts it, "as we grow old, the beauty steals inward"

My name is Lisa and I am a sugar junkie! LOL! I have discovered Truvia though and feel like it's a healthy alternative. We'll see. Although there is no substitute for chocolate.:)
PS Liz at Rose Vignettes is hosting the Pringles challenge but I do plan on participating.

oh I do love this one!! Especially..."drink it
really fast. the cold headache authenticates the experience"... you are such a nut!

I bet your arms look just fine, but it's for sure they will after boot camp! Brutal!! :)

One of my favorites is the FF vanilla pudding little cup with 1/3 cup LITE cherry pie filling - layer it - and even a spoon of Kool Whip... the whole thing is 100 calories and it is RICH!!!

I so love this post!

When I was in my 40's a coworker commented about my sleeveless dress and my "toned" arms. I thanked her and as I walked away I was so confused...what could be wrong with anyone's arms?

Well today at 58 almost 59 I am looking at those arms...ok weights...well perhaps my Yoga...but the Sugar now that's the killer...I so remember the old days...eating anything I wanted...what were calories? Ahhhh....oh yes gotta go and eat my orange...and pump those 10 pound weights!

I like to get fat free Cool Whip, sprinkle Cocoa on it and use a whip to stir it. Kinda like Chocolate Mousse. Well, the chocolates real! Put sliced almonds in it for protein.

Well I do not have Sheryl Crow's arms but I read this anyway for what sounds like a yummy shake.

You are so funny :-) I'm not much of a dessert maker but I do like using Truvia/Stevia in my recipes. Ever tried it?

Did you get my email? I never got yours for Grace. I got the comment saying you sent one but it never came :-(

As for fake desserts? My husband would say they are not worth eating so just enjoy the real ones :-)

HAHA...this was pretty fuuny, though can I ever identify!! I have a few low cal (100 calories or less) desserts. One of them is sugar free/fat free puddings...I make them with fat free milk and top them with a dash of fat free whip topping or cool whip...sometimes I add a little fruit like blueberries or strawberries to the vanilla flavor. Pretty good really. Also the WW brand fudge pops...also there sugar free popcycles. When all else fails I get a frozen free yogurt, but no more than 4 oz. and the sugar free one. They always have a least one sugar free to pick from. But truthfully I am doing Jenny Craig and they have desserts...now they are REALLY REALLY small, but they are VERY VERY tasty. It is just like everything else when it comes to losing weight. Everything in the right proportion. Good luck at boot camp! BLESSINGS

Thank you for the recipe ...I will use it when I wan't that headache!
Sugar is so hard to for-go...I needed the reminder that short sleeves/crops are on the way so I better be on mine too!

Gosh, your arms look fine to me. I've got the scary "flabby arm/body" genes on all sides of my family tree & I need to work much more diligently in that area!!!
I would stay away from Splenda. It's a cancer causer - instead try stevia (which is actually sweeter than table sugar) or use Truvia, which is easier to measure/cook with. I use Truvia with some of the South Beach recipes & they are pretty good.
You're beautiful inside & out, Miss Lea!
Love, Leslie

ME, TOO! I mean, the sugar thing. I don't have any sugar recipes, sorry, Lea, but I'll snag yours! Can I throw in a couple of Reese's cups?

I have a champion juicer that has a blank you can replace for the strainer screen, so I take frozen berries and bananas (or any fruit you like to freeze) and make ice cream. Just put it through and out comes a wonderful frozen treat.

I don't know of any pretend sugar highs...

Luckily my cravings have turned to carbs, and I am fighting cravings for potato chips and Doritos. Yeah...I'm so lucky...

Bless your heart - my husband was recently diagnosed with diabetes and we are suffering from sugar/dessert withdrawal too!
Thanks for the recipe. Something that we like is sugar free jello with sugar free canned fruit mixed in, topped with sugar free Cool Whip. It's not a candy bar but it is a nice treat before bedtime.

Ah, yes, spring. *sigh*

3/4 cup frozen strawberries
One cup skim milk
Two packets sweet and low
Two ice cubes
1/8 teaspoon real vanilla extract

Put in blender and blend like a milkshake. Pour into milkshake glass and drink with a milkshake straw.

Enjoy!

I had to laugh (then I secretly looked in the mirror.) My mom just told me a story that happened to her one day in school. She teaches English as a Second Language in an elementary school. One day she wore a short sleeve shirt and one of her kids, who didn't speak any english at that point, couldn't stop poking her in the arm and laughing. She couldn't help but laugh when she realized that he hadn't ever seen such jiggily arms and that he was poking to see her skin squish around.

Think I am going to go workout with my punching bag after reading your post. We still have two feet of snow on the ground...

welllllllllllllllllllllll......okay...we don't really have one BUT...
we have begun baking sugarless pies here. Now it won't be as good as CHOCOLATE ( which we gave up for Lent until the day after Ash Wednesday ;o), but it will help curb the sugar fix..and if not, try the chocolate with MALITOL (sp?)
We recently came across that and it really is quite good!
Hugs to you,
Nancy

Just to let you know, all day today I have been doing arm exercises. Walking around, sitting, even when trying to fold clothes. I was starting to drive my husband nuts when I asked him, "You're starting to think I'm a little crazy, huh?" Dumb question on my part as he replied, "No Kate, I KNOW you're crazy!"

Have a good blogging break!

But those are my arms, Lea. At least, the top part look like my arms. Sugar is a hard habit to kick; you're tucked into prayer for courage and determination.
