dear emily,
a few weeks ago i found a wonderful blogger who shares some
yummy secrets to adapting 'fake' snacks into healthy treats. her
simple genius has helped me think outside the box, too. i would
love to send you to her blog, but i've lost it. dang.
want to know what else is in your mr. redenbacher's microwave
popcorn? i don't even know what a couple of these substances
are:
popcorn
palm oil
salt
potassium chloride
butter
natural and artificial flavor
color?
TBHQ??
citric acid
here's the ingredients for your just as easy microwave popcorn:
popcorn
salt, if you want . . .
butter, if you like . . .
pour 1/4 cup popcorn kernels into a paper lunch sack. fold the
sack over twice, creasing each fold, and set microwave to the
'popcorn' setting. once your corn has popped, season as you
wish, happy with the knowledge that nothing artificial has been
added to your healthy snack.
yum!
love,
lea
ps. "dear friend, i pray that you may enjoy good health and that
all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well."

Hubby was recently diagnosed with diabetes and since then I have been studying food labels carefully. It's amazing the amount of sugar and salt in canned and frozen foods. Just like with this recipe of yours for a better popcorn, some things are just healthier if you make them yourselves.
Hope you have a nice week.
You can't remember the name? Rats. When I read about how bad the microwave popcorn is and what it does, I have been leery of it. Thanks for the recipe.
Hope you are doing well, my dear Lea. I think of you all of the time.
You can pop dry popcorn in a bag? That would be awesome!
kim, you are TOO sweet.
michele: yes you can! i do it almost
every day. :)
We heard this some time ago and
gave up our nightly popcorn. We
will have to try it now your way.
Thanks, Lea.
Thank you, Lea, for this post; if more people read food labels, the food industry would make better food. People don't seem to realize they vote with their feet and their money or, as Dave likes to say, "pay now or pay later"...as in poor or good health, depending upon what goes in now.
I was hunger for popcorn tonight...we have been making homemade lately and enjoying it more...you can get so creative. Air pop or pop in coconut oil...and season.
I hope you are having to build a boat..we might have too, but the plants sure needed it.
Wow .. who knew!! Thanks for sharing this... I'm trying to get back to healthy eating and this would be great. Definitely going to try it... I can't wait to see Mr. G's face when I try this.. and it works!!! Hope all is well with you my friend. xo HHL
P.S. I find a child size hot-water bottle is perfect to warm my footies...xo
Just getting ready to comment and hear Osama Bin Laden has been killed...special report on television.
Wow...
Thanks for stopping by girlfriend, always nice to hear from you.
I'm all for the homemade popcorn.
Microwave, Bad, Bad.

Sweet Up-North Mornings...
With the epidemics of obesity, alzheimers, autism, asperger and on and on, it's time we take a good hard look at what we're eating and drinking.
What will the health of our childrens children be like?
Yes. I know that paper bag stuff is better for you, but it just doesn't pop as nicely in my microwave, which is why I indulge on very rare occasions with the very bad "good" stuff. Now I'm off to Google a blogger...
And your blog pops up first! ☺
When you make things yourself you realise just how much sugar, butter, salt, etc is in a cake or biscuit. It is no wonder people have no idea when so many don't cook from scratch. Have never made my own popcorn but I am not that much of a popcorn fan anyway.
I haven't heard about the horrors of microwave popcorn and I am almost afraid to ask....but this does sound both easy and good. I will be trying it out. Thanks for the tip! Have a good day.
Hi Lea,
So glad you are back!!! Sounds like you had a wonderful Easter.
And so disgusting about the popcorn. Thanks for sharing, and I hope you find the other blog again. I know you will... You'll have to share. And I am still working on my arms! Thanks for doing that post, as we still have snow in our horizons, I have extra time to work on them!

Because I didn't see it mentioned on any of the other comments, I'd also suggest just looking for ALL NATURAL microwave popcorn, especially for those who don't want to give up the convenience/ease of microwave popcorn!
My box of Orville Redenbacher's Natural has no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives, 0g of trans fat, no diacetyl butter flavoring, and just four ingredients: popping corn, palm oil, salt, and mixed tocopherols (these are Vitamin E-containing organic compounds which prevent oils from going rancid).
Also look for Newman's Own organic microwave popcorn.
It IS possible to make natural and healthy microwave popcorn - our country's tastes have just been so spoiled that the majority of consumers cannot do without the artificial taste and colorings of traditional microwave popcorn. What a shame!
well doggone! who knew? What a nice simple idea... I'm getting popcorn kernels in the morning and brown bags!
What a AWESOME tip... seriously love this idea, and thank you, thank you for passing it along! We will be trying this very soon. Normally we do air popped popcorn, but do have microwave popcorn on hand if just one person feels like it.
Accountability??
YEP!
I'm on board with that one. My priorities have to come first... quiet time, exercise, bills, and the whatevers... then blogging! I am stepping in to this challenge... just know that I am accountable, so you WILL NOT be getting an email from me on this!!
As long as I know you are 'watching'... no way!
Having said that... how dumb am I to think God is not also watching.
'nuff said. Thanks for the extra prod!
xo
I absolutely love popcorn, another thing we have in common I see. In the cinema here in Paris they give you a choice of salty or sweet...hmmm, too many choices.
I have become a serious ingredient reader. It just doesn't seem right feeding my family all of those ingredients that are "added" and you can't pronounce. I love to use our old air popper for popcorn, but I will have to try this easy microwave recipe for a quick snack and easy clean-up!
I cannot wait to try this!!!! We eat micro popcorn almost every single day! Didn't know it was bad for us...oh dear!
I can't believe you just pop it into a paper bag!! I am so trying this as soon as possible! Thank you for sharing this with me!
Best wishes always,
Natasha.
And here I thought I was snacking healthy...not! I will try this, and if it passes the Herbie test - it will be handed down to the next generation. We'll call it...Lea corn!
deborah: i was hoping someone would name
it after me. :)
Yeah! I'm needing to incorporate healthier snacks, too. And don't you just hate it when you lose a really good website! :)
Can it really be that easy, and healthy too? Thanks for putting us on to this--I'll have to give it a try!
Hey, i've been catching up on your blog. i love them. thanks for the tip about the popcorn. i will use it. miss you already. :)
