somehow, i misplaced our big, black family NIV bible (christmas, i guess.) in
its place, my mother in law's big, black king james stepped up. how in the
world did i get that, i wonder? no matter, i love it. the beautifully
expressive language has won my heart.
"for they call themselves of the holy city and STAY themselves upon the God of
israel." isaiah 48:2
this 'calling' and 'staying' puts me in the mind of my westie, jack. even
though he doesn't always come when i call, he only feels safe when in my
home (city.) he stays at my feet, eyes and ears tuned to me, whether i am
at the kitchen table, piano, or stove.
stay: continue, remain, wait, endure, keep up (as in a race), stand one's
ground, cinch (as in a girdle), root into
oh, to be a dogkeeper in the house of the Lord . . .

How neat that you enjoy the beauty of both the NIV and your mom's KJV, and interesting that my post today shows Philippians 4:8 in both the NIV and the KJV language. I love how the KJV says "whatsoever things be true" and how it reads like poetry.
Have you ever noticed how some older (? - what am I saying here???) folks pray King James? That always makes me smile.

I love the word of God. I guess the version I read most is the NIV or NLT but there's just something about the KJV; so poetic, flowing.I find when I am quoting a passage in my mind it's always the NKJV because that's where I've memorized from most.
Your point is memorable, as Vee said.
The KJV is such an eloquent translation! But all time favorite translation is the Amplified. It's so much LOUDER! LOL!

Love that you have that King James. I actually LOVE that old English version. It sounds so much more reverent to me. Sometimes I think we have become so relaxed in church and in our worship and quiet time that we lose some of the awe and reverence for God.
I'm like Vee - my little chihuahua sits by the door when I'm gone and waits for me. I need to be that way with the Lord. "Wait upon the Lord"...

While I love the elegance of the KJV I don't think it is much use as a study Bible. Whenever I compare with a modern translation I am amazed at how much of the sense simply disappears in the archaic language.
I was given a lovely leather bound KJV family Bible by my parents as a wedding present ... a shame, I never use it because it is KJV and the family pages remained stubbornly blank as the years passed by.
I love the KJV; it speaks to my heart and soul like no other version. I will gladly be a dog keeper in His Kingdom!
I don't know if there is a specific line in Eccl. 3 that directly relates to what you experience with your dog and what you've said; however, it took me there. There is a season for everything.
