lo, how a rose e'er blooming

dear emily,

i was working at my computer when i noticed a lovely pink hue to the
room.   looking out the kitchen window,  i gasped at the reddish-rosy
glow in the sky.    while taking pictures, i couldn't believe that it was
december 1st, 80 degrees, and my roses were still blooming.

then i thought of one of my favorite Christmas hymns, "lo, how a rose
e'er blooming."

lo, how a rose e'er blooming from tender stem hath sprung?
of jesse's lineage coming, as men of old have sung.
it came, a floweret bright, amid the cold of winter,
when half spent was the night

isaiah 'twas foretold it, the Rose i have in mind;
mary we behold it, the virgin mother kind.
to show God's love aright, she bore to us a Saviour,
when half spent was the night . . .

love,
lea

700 years before the birth of Christ, "therefore the Lord himself will
give you a sign:  the virgin will be with child and will give birth to a
Son, and will call him Immanuel."   isaiah 7:14

700 years before Christ, isn't it amazing??

When I read this it made me wish I could hear you sing it!

One of my favorites and we so seldom hear it. I think it's amazing that your roses are still blooming as well...what a precious reminder.

I love the hymn. Think it's German originally. Es ist ein Rose entsprongen. I have it on my ipod. We used to sing it in school, and a wonderful play was made about it.
The wonderful things about these hymns are the memories filling the head and soul while singing.

I missed that sunset but a couple of friends posted it on FB last night...absolutely beautiful. We've had some amazing sunsets this fall.

The song is beautiful, as well. I'm glad those e'er blooming roses brought it to your mind.

The Bible foretold His coming in so many prophecies. To think that so many choose not to SEE, even trying to dissect Christ from Christmas.

This hymn is one of my favorite, most poignant songs to sing. If you have a chance, check out First Call's A Capella version of this.

Thanks for visiting my blog today. I love that little poem.
