a number?

dear emily,

i just read a blog post that said, "you are not a number!", and i thought,
"amen!"   i could never be a number.   those alien digits leave me cold.
i wish phone numbers could go back to "hi doris, could you please
dial phyllis for me?"

every evening at dinner, my father would receive multiple calls from
his answering service.   he never recorded a single number but could
hang up the phone and call each patient from memory.   one time i
asked him how he remembered all those telephone numbers.

"anyone ought to be able to remember seven numbers."  gulp.  well,
now it's ten!

i am not a number.   i am a word.   though small, i come from mighty
stock.   my word is as powerful as my time spent with the Word, and
i would rather memorize Him.

love,
lea

the Word was God."  john 1:1

Right on Lea! And many many times, ... my words need to be fewer, and more as a result of time spent with Him. Somewhere between 'not being just a number' and letting Him direct my words, is where I spend far too much time. Small words are good! :)

Amen!! He knows the numbers of hairs on my head, but He never makes me take a number to see Him...praise God

I hope you are in the Colorado cool...it is 106 here

AMEN....love this. I was going to say something similar to Janette...He knows the number of hairs on our heads, but that's the only thing that is numbered!

This is a good reminder that I am someone and God knows me and knew me before I was even formed.
I hope you are having a wonderful time and it is cool. :)

A lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path -- much better than a number!

Some people are so into numbers. I know a man who knows his SS#, his license plate#, his phone#, his cellphone# and his wife's, his Army issue rifle#, and his first telephone# ever. I do not remember such things and rather like the way you put your brain cells to memorizing God's Word, which, unless it's a scripture song, I also find a challenge.

Amen! And so amazing that we are all so uniquely different. And He knew that before we were even formed.

And you just touched on pretty much my only talent. Remembering phone numbers. I can't get them out of my head. And with speed dial and cell phones, sadly, I can get no mileage off my only talent....

Have a wonderful weekend!!! Go USA!

I used to be great with numbers but the calculator turned my brain to mush. Now I too remember words.

I used to be able to remember everyone's numbers when you had to dial with those black old phones. Now each number is stored in my mobile and I'm ashamed to say I don't even know my kids' numbers.

That's really bad.

So funny, Leah. When my BIL came for his first visit, he stopped at the country store, 10 miles up the road, and asked if he could use the phone. Then he asked if he could use the phone book. The store owner looked at him and said, "who do you need to call?" My BIL said Dave B. The owner looked at him and said, "4121".
It's still, pretty much, that way; we all go by our last 4 digits.

Good Morning. :o)

I entered my scrappy quilt into a contest. If you think it merits a vote,
will you hop over and give it a thumbs up? The title of my quilt is
"scrappy quilt" and the link is : http://quiltinggallery.com/blog-posts/

Thanks from the bottom of my heart. Trish xo

I agree, get Phyllis on the line. That would be much easier.

You always make me smile :-)
