tornadoes create strange bedfellows

dear emily,

people outside oklahoma are always surpised at our cavalier attitude toward
tornadoes.   we're as accustomed to them whirling about as the azaleas
blooming each spring.  still, they provide some interesting situations.   an
adorable young woman recently told me this tornado story.

she and her husband hired a young man to pull some weeds from  their yard
to help him raise funds for a mission trip.   unfortunately, as he was working,
a three block wide tornado tore through their town, skipping from house to
house.   the sirens sounded, and the little bride urged the young man into
their inner closet.

that is what we do in oklahoma.

after they shut themselves in, the poor girl realized that she had barricaded
herself in a closet with another man.

it could have been worse.    many people dive for the bathtubs.

love,
lea

Oh...this is so cute! I do hope all of you have been safe from these terrible storms this weekend. We had some thunderstorms but that's it. Let's pray it's a calm summer.

XO,
Jane

Well, I have always been in awe at how brave the people in your area are to weather such horrific tornados. I love your story, but I don't know how you all do it.

Last week in Texas I saw that there were numerous tornados approaching Dallas. We had one freak tornado last year and it destroyed several towns.

Here in New England we battle snow storms, but rarely Tornados.

karen: we're not brave just used to them.

Oh my! That is the funniest thing I've read about the tornado situation all day. Yes, I think those who live in Tornado Alley have an entirely different sensibility. Those of us who don't are horrified for you.

Oh my ... it just goes to show that there's a cause for laughter in nearly every one of life's challenges!

We here in the Pacific NW live with the certainty that there WILL again be an earthquake, living on a huge fault-line as we do. It's not "if", but "when?". My husband says all we have to do is jump up and we won't feel the ground shaking. I'm not sure I can jump that high :)

Blessings,
Kathleen

Well you know, we all have our trials. I think that is a very cute story.

Having to invite someone into my closet is my worst nightmare - not that I would have to share a safe haven in a storm, but that they would see the inside of my closet. Oh, my.

After six years of being introduced each spring to tornadoes I think we're finally getting use to the drill each season. Not cozying up to it exactly just getting use to it.

Thankfully our small town has not had a direct hit in 85+yrs.

Keep safe~ Cinnamon

I've never seen one and hope to never do so. I don't like what I see from the way the tornadoes carry on in films and on TV :-)

I enjoyed your post. Imagine being in the bathtub with a strange guy... pretty awkward.

LOL! Oh no. Well, she couldn't just leave him out there!

Too cute! I hope you all have not been affected too terribly much by bad weather. This last year has just been crazy with storms. Hopefully it will all settle down soon.
Hope your week is going well!

HI Dear Lea
Well I think if I lived there I would never become blaze about tornadoes... although I guess one would need to to keep their sanity and not live in fear..

Cute how the bride got 'caught' with the gardener!! haha..wonder who was more surprised!

Thanks for popping in. and thanks for the kind words.. I do think your encouragement might lead to a few chapters..

Have a great week.. ciao xxx Julie

Tornadoes are scary to me. Driving the snow too. But all the venomous creatures that inhabit our part of the world are a breeze. It all comes down to what we know from experience.

haha! that is funny.

i'm among the "people outside oklahoma who are always surprised at [y]our cavalier attitude" while the first threat of a tornado has me totally faking tranquility and "no big deal" to the kids, while internally i'm replaying the scene from the Wizard of Oz, with Dorothy pulling on the cellar door and crying out, "Aunt Em! Aunt Em!"... i hate even the thought of them.
