the head or the neck

dear emily,

it is not fashionable these days to be submissive to one's husband.  when i
was a young bride, some of us believed that if we honored our mates, and
they loved us as Christ loves His church, we would be very happy.

i was wondering, if i ask hans to lead the way down a path, who is the boss?
him, for leading?  or me, for asking him to lead?  how much does this even
matter?  we're taking a hike through our lives together.

then, i remembered the hilarious scene from my big, fat, greek wedding in
which the mother tells her daughter (aunt nodding in affirmation), "your
father may be the head of the family, but i am the neck that turns the head."

not many people say, "she has a beautiful head," but, i have heard,
"she has such a lovely neck."

not about me, of course.

if i were to give a young bride and groom advice, it would be for them
both to be mutually submissive to each other in love, honor, and trust-
worthiness.

love,
lea

"finally, live in harmony with one another;  be sympathetic, love as
brothers, be compassionate and humble.  do not repay evil with evil
or insult with insult, but with blessing."  1 peter 3:8,9

That was a funny movie! We get a good laugh when we watch it...:)

RESPECT...is the name of the game in every marriage! If you don't respect each other there will be many problems. Great scripture to go with your post! A beautiful reminder for us.

Happy Easter blessings to you.

Oh my hubby has said more than once he is the head but I am the neck and where I turn is where he looks...ha, ha

I think submitting is easy and natural when your hubby loves you

I remember my mum thinking that ladies with long necks were very elegant. Perhaps it was not so much that they had long necks but carried themselves well.

I try not to weigh into the submission debate. People in marriages that survive know there is give and take.

I have been thinking of doing a post like this. Only I am a bit afraid. I think you did it very nicely.
I feel more strongly now about joyfully submitting now after almost 32 years than I ever have.

There, you did it again! You SAY it so clearly, without SAYING it! What a great way to teach a lesson. I'll bet you were a home school mom that your kids will always be greatful for.

Whole sermons say less on this subject than your blog did... I love it!! :)

Such a cute way to offer great advice, Lea. Mutual love and respect. So many just don't get this.

Great post, Lea. I used to tell Dave, you get 51% of the vote and I get 49%; he made the money that got us here, I did the work that kept us here. We worked for each other, with each other and for ourselves; worked pretty well for us too.
