the smallest tree

i confess that i started this duel by asking vee if her tree was
really only three feet tall.  she has to admit, though, that she
escalated the battle by revealing her beautiful tree which IS
three feet.

as i passed my kitchen island, i started snickering, because my
tree is only 22 inches tall!

so, i am challenging bloggers everywhere, even in the remote
country of texas, to "the smallest tree" contest.  all you have to
do is post a picture of your tiny tree, give its height, and leave
me a comment, so i will know to verify your tall tale.

the winner of the smallest tree will receive an itty, bitty candy
cane to grace your teeny shrub.

merry Christmas,
lea

Your tree is adorable. My tree
would never win your contest
because it touches the ceiling.
When I was a child my dad, for
some reason, always picked out
a small tree for us. I remember
saying that when I grew up and
lived on my own I was going to
have a big tree. When I moved
into my first apartment I got
a tree that touched the ceiling
and I've done the same since.
It's just me.
Love,
Sandy

I bought a feather tree after last Christmas and it is still in the box. I don't remember how tall it is but I think it is dinky! I'll let you know. I really want to win that candy cane!

Jane

I'm afraid this leaves me out also. We used to joke that my grandfather would look for the largest tree in the forest and bring it home. But now I do the same thing - except from a tree lot. About 9 feet and touching the ceiling makes me happy.

From the small state of TEXAS...our tree this year is the smallest we have ever had...it is 5'6"....it looks very small to us after having a 14' tree for years. But hey, we are downsizing!!!

I love your tree and I think I will take Benjamin out to the woods to cut down a small tree for himself...I don't know if we will win the small tree contest...but I bet it will look like Charlie Brown's tree

fun post...

Ha! My tree is huge! Thing is, we don't believe in cutting down trees for our Christmas pleasure. We have a fake one which I store in the loft (attic) each year. I had a small one for 10 years, but 2 years ago decided we needed a bigger one.
Sadly, my little, bitty one is gone.

Oh! You are precious!

I love your tree and all of that crazy ribbony stuff made me laugh. :) That there is a fun tree! :)

I can't compete though. Mine is trying to stand taller than the ceiling, so I'm afraid your sweet little candy cane would be quickly gobbled up by my tree, Gigantor.

Sweet idea for a contest though. I like it! May the bestest tiny tree win!

well, i am just so sorry you all have
have such large trees. i hope no one
thinks i'm a show off, because mine
is SO small and all. :)

we will not talk about that third person between us at this point of marriage...LOL...our arms are needing to grow longer as my Dad says!

and remember I will be using a walking cane when the time comes for an empty nest...so we will have a lot of adjustments...but enjoy your empty nest and beings soooooooo young!!!

hey, it is okay that a Texan can't win the candy cane contest...remember EVERYTHING IS BIGGER IN TEXAS!!!
Thanks for the laugh!!!

That tiny tree is so cute! I think that I will go out today and buy a tiny tree, but I also Have to have a BIG tree, too! For about seven years we had a Huge 12 foot tree, but this past summer it went away on the Salvation Army truck because, this year, I want a shorter, fatter, real tree. So...I will have tiny and chubby.
Very Fun!

Okay Lea, you got me to wondering I have a kitchen tree, that is 15 inches. I would have never measured it. :) Good thing I live in California so I am not eligible. :)
So good luck trying to find something small in Texas. I bet even the small candy canes are even big.
Have fun on your quest.

kim, you are so far, the winner!!!

Oh thank you for the link love... Say, I have a small tree in my bay window, about the size of your counter-top tree. I don't think it's teeny-weeny, though, so I'll not include it in the contest. Oh I'd love to chop down a real tree again...it's a renewable resource and we have a lot of Christmas tree farms in my corner who depend upon it. It's just that I don't have the room right now...maybe next year!

You are too funny! I know my Kinzie has a tiny tree..somewhere, but by the time I dug it out of her piles of toys, it might be next Christmas.

I'll have to measure it, but I have one that is truly tiny. I'll get back to you on the actual size. ;-)

I have a wee little tree too, Lea. It is getting very old and decrepit. I named it "mamma's Christmas tree" a million years ago. I think mine is definitely the shortest as she is bed fast. Her legs are broken and she no longer stands. My husband promises to fix her soon. He is a chiropractor so I think he will be able to get her back on her feet soon. He is good at this! :) I do not have a picture at this time. Love this contest! You are a fun one, my dear!

Love you,
Cheri

What a cute little tree you have! That size tree would never satisfy my 3 year old. Our tree is much too big for the contest ; ).

Dear Lea,
I took a picture of my tree. My husband and I tried to post it here but couldn't figure out how to get it to you. I am hosting Bible study tonight so I will not have time to get it to you tonight. It might take me a while to figure it out. :)
Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog!

ok Lea... so I almost missed the word TEXAS completely, it was so small! I do have a tiny tree, about 5"... 6 of them! But I will graciously give up my chance at the candy cane, as I also have a 6 footer over in the corner. :)

Oh what a darling tree.I also got a chuckle out of your description of Texas...in teeny letters, and referring to it as a country, and I do believe Texas is it's own country too. Yay Texas!

Cheri Bunch said...

I put it on my blog, Lea. It is 'round and fat and proud of that' so it might be too tall yet.

I just sent you proof, but I was giddy in my assessment... they are 7" to top of balls, and they are for place settings for the kids Norwegian table!! A Texas tale... 5" sounded so good, till I got them out and measured them... they are cute and they are small, but I stand guilty of "Texas talk', where everything is bigger, or smaller!! :)

This was fun, and to prove I have them, I sent you an email!

myletterstoemily said...

sonja: so far, you're the only one to
send proof . . .

Kisses, Lea!

You brought me back to when my brother who passed away 15 years ago was 8 and proudly went to cut down our family Christmas tree.

From our neighbor's back yard.

He apologized. The neighbor's tried to hide their chuckles for my parent's and Jeff's benefit. (The tree was from an uncleared part of their back lot.)

It was indeed our Christmas tree that year. Much like Charlie Brown's. It would have grown to be a towering Pine, but it died a Christmas death from ornaments and lights, and tinsel draped on spindly, scrawney branches, and loved by three rowdy kids.

Thank you soooo much for the memory. It made my day.

Merry Christmas,
Dawn

Hi Lea,
I am work today so I am not home to measure, but it is more than seven inches. Maybe 10 or 11. Sideways that is. :)

Can hardly wait to hear the 'rest of the story'.

What and ADORABLE contest! That's hilarious!

Thank you so much for the comment. Everyone is so nice, I'm already feeling better. Vampires, eh? I think I'm feeling another knitted toy coming on... ;)

How fun!

Well, I lose straight-away since my little tree stands about 4' tall.

No matter the tree's size, they sure do add to the wonder of silent nights.

Have great fun collecting tree pics. The end result is gonna be hilarious!

Blessings,
Kathleen
