hear no evil, speak no evil

when my son max was three or four and up to some orneriness, he
would say, "mommy, don't see me."

what a great illustration of how we try to hide our own ugliness.
unfortunately, "there is nothing concealed that will not be dis-
closed, or hidden that will not be made known.  what you have
said in the dark will be heard in the daylight and what you have
heard in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the rooftops."
(luke 12:2,3)

not exactly a refrigerator verse.  more of a rooftop one.

a true indicator of the state of our hearts is how we speak to our
husbands and children when no one else is listening . . . how
we talk about our friends when they aren't around . . . and how
we treat the least in the kingdom (the dog!)

Lord, have mercy!

Love this post! How true. I try to remember that when I am speaking to my lovely husband and children. They do, however, get the worst of me sometimes. Carla

You convict my heart with words of grace. I think that what Jesus would do ... or does.

You say so much with few words. I love it!!!

Blessings to you!

So, so true! I remind my kids often...the true character of yourself is how you treat those closest to you. AKA...your family.

Such a lovely reminder to treat our loved ones with the respect~ we give to strangers. I know I have been guilty many, many times in the past year of releasing my frustration for my limitations on Mr. G, when he is often just trying to make things easier for me... and I thank God each and every day that he has Blessed me wth such a wonderful and understanding man. Hugs ..HHL

Great post! Love those pretty photos with it. This post speaks to me today...I was kind of in a bad mood trying to get my grandson to mind me this morning (and it's even his birthday)! As the garage door was opening up for me to drive the grandchildren to school, I saw a neighbor outside and thought...Oh no, I hope I wasn't yelling too loud at him! Dear Lord, help me in those weak moments...:)

Now you've gone and done it! Did you see me tug on Molly's leash in complete and total frustration last night? :D

I love that. Don't see me. Wouldn't we all like to say that once in a while.

Great post, Lea.

Leah,
Your gracious words on my blog are inspiration to me. But I would never, ever want to make anyone feel ashamed. And your pictures are WAY better than mine. So there. (My good pics were all taken by my son.)

What books? I'd love to hone the craft, too.

Amen. This is so true. The people we are supposed to love most can sometimes see and receive our worst side. This is not the way it should be at all.
A friend and I were talking the other day about respect and how if you lose that for your spouse, you're heading in the danger zone.
Even saying please and thank you to the people close to you show that you respect them and don't take them for granted. I try hard. Sometimes I fail to show my family my best, but I try.

Dear Lea,
I am doing a little blog visiting tonight, and here I am reading up on your recent posts.

It is always so good to come here...such honest and heartwarming words. You really are able to drive home a point in just a few sentences.

I love your stories... your walmart story had me smiling. Didn't even know you were a singer!

Bye for now, just wanted to let you know I enjoyed my visit.

Have a blessed weekend...

Love
Lidj

It is interesting that the people we love the most at times we treat the worst, perhaps because the consequences are less drastic -- so a good reminder in your post today. And I love the Autumn leaves.

This is so true! I was just thinking this yesterday. We were at a store and an older gentleman started talking to us. My husband excused himself to go pay for our purchases, and the gentleman continued telling me stories about his children. He even pulled out an album with newspaper clippings and pictures! He was so proud of them and I couldn't bear to leave. I thought he must not have too many people to talk to, so I continued to listen even after my husband called me from the car to say let's go!

After a few more minutes, I politely excused myself, but as
I was walking away I found myself wondering if I have the same amount of patience for my children and my husband. Am I so concerned about their feelings that I am willing to inconvenience myself to spend those few extra moments to make them feel as special as I made a total stranger feel? Something to think about!

What a great Biblical lesson, each and every word. I loved the "Mommy, don't see me"; how so like us before the Father.

Lea, this is a wonderful post and great analogy! How come it is, sometimes, that we treat perfect strangers better than those we love the most! I just don't get it!

Thanks for the reminder today! Happy Thanksgiving my dear!

Loved the story on your son and your analogy and scripture are right on the money as always! Very nice pics too, Lea. You are great at challenging our thinking. Keep 'em coming!

So we were in Colorado at the same time?! It must look like a winter wonderland now compared to the beautiful weather we had that week. My friend and I are discussing going up there in February so I can enjoy some snow ... we don't get much in FL - hah!

Oh my goodness Lea...this is beautiful! That is one of my favorite verses of the New Testament! You are so right about how we treat the ones closest to us, when no one else sees.
Beautiful post.
