waitin' for the car wash

when our son max was only three or so, i took him with me to drive through
the car wash, thinking he would get a kick out of the giant scrubbers, multi-
colored rubber strips, and soapy water.

wrong.  it terrified him.  i guess he thought it was attacking us, which is totally
understandable, since he always knew the fourth of july fireworks were aimed
straight at us.  don't even get me started about the circus or the rodeo!

but, i digress from the car wash.  hans has been doing an informal survey and
maintains most women will wait until the car in front pulls completely out
before we enter.  we, apparently don't understand that the wash is set to dry
the first car while foaming the second car.   uh huh.

before he could further explain the brilliant engineering of automatic car washes,
i interrupted.  "i have noticed that most men will practically push my car out
while it's still my turn."

reminds me of little boys who can't wait their turn for the water fountain.  :)

love,
lea

Hmmm, I've noticed that, too, Lea. Women, as a rule, are a bit more respectful of space whether it's personal space or car space. There are, of course, exceptions. My son was terrified of car washes and he remains a titch nervous about a number of such things. It may be all my fault.

I thought the same thing ... that visiting the car wash would be a fun adventure for my little one. I was wrong too! He was terrified. Talk about feeling like a bad mommy!

And I will wait too. I suppose women are just more polite!

My girls used to love the car wash. I have never thought about the difference between men and women at the car wash. You are a very observant person! Carla

Some of our "disagreements" arise while going thru the car wash!!! I don't have children but I thought our dog would love to go thru and it terrifed her! Oh well, I'll just go by myself and do it MY WAY!

I was so happy to see you had stopped by for a visit ... no real rules for the chocolate ... just fun and sharing...

I once terrified a friends child thinking the car wash would be a great treat for a 6 year old to experience... Hugs HHL

Too funny...I can so remember the car wash scaring all of my children the first time!
I am laughing thinking what all we did to sidetrack the youngest!

Lea, I use the carwash occasionally and I can understand a young child being terrified of it! I almost duck when the big roller comes towards me lol!

Oh and the carwash commenter is really spam, or phising (I think it is called). They troll the net for key words according to the product they are trying to promote.

God bless you and thank you for your very lovely words on my blog. I do think you underestimate yourself though ;)

I haven't been to the car wash for many many years, it just waits until the car gets serviced.

You're right!

I never liked the carwash. It always felt suffocating to me.

Thanks for asking on little one...he is still having pain at night, hard to sleep. We are making it through the day, just being very creative. I am determined to enjoy this time and make it a happy memory. He has been my little runner, so different to have one break something...we have done all the strains through 19 years of sports.
I just keep seeing God using him running, so I am praying that little leg comes back really strong.
I am so thankful for our best friend who is an orthopedic surgeon...God is faithful!

Anne, a dear friend only one year older than I and now in an Alzheimer's facility for three years, used to love riding through the car wash. I'd pick her up and we'd go get the car washed just so she could squeal and laugh. Fond memories of happier days...

Hi Lea.... thanks for stopping by my blog this morning. Yes, that Sandra does love to brag a bit.

Love this car wash story. I am one of the few women that shoves the previous car out of the way and have for years. Just wish Virginia would get some fancier car washes like we had when we lived in Arizona!

Yes, I think women tend to be more respectful of "space". I feel like putting the car in park when someone behind me is trying to drive into my back seat!
And my dog almost has a nervous breakdown when we go through a car wash. I have the scratch marks to prove it.

So true, I have sat and watched the same thing, and men get mad when I hesitate because they are in such a hurry.

The same thing happened to my son, he totally freaked. Poor baby.

I did not know that woman wait. I am glad. Who knew the Psychology of car washes. :)

You had a earthquake??? Oh my gosh,
It is bad enough you have lighting storms and tornadoes not a earthquake too.
I expect them but not in Oklahoma.
I was teaching the kids once and we were reading Acts when Peter is in prison and the earthquake came and opened the doors. While I was reading it out loud... to myself I wondered, Does God still do this like then, and at exactly that moment we had a earthquake. I was upstairs with the kids and the house just rocked and rolled.
So, I was just wondering. :)

Lady...your profile picture is just what you do!!! I am standing here just applauding you...can you hear my cheers?
You go from blog to blog, like that bird and you give food to the little open mouths in the nest...shown in your picture.
I am one that you bless with the feeding and I see how many others are to!

I just came from one blog where you poured such blessings on the precious woman...and then you suggested my blog, how sweet, although undesired.

I pray that today God will come and meet your needs, that you will feel his Hand of encouragement on you...that He continues to fill you up as you continue to give out to others. That He gives you "your hearts desire."

I am truly inspired...thanks for the inspiration!!!

Of course, we wait on the car in front of us to finish! After all, we all learned to wait our turn! They can be a little intimidating, I think, but oh so helpful in the scheme of things.

Hi! Oh, this is a cute story and I understand completely! My son was so scared of the car wash! I thought the more we went through them, he'd finally get over it! Didn't happen!
Thanks so much for popping in to see me today.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Hi Emily
I last visited you blog place on Oct 2...and here I am again, twelve days later (Manila time).
Well, it was hard to resist not reading all the posts you've written since I was here...

Such lovely tidbits. Such wise words of advice.

I'm happy you're eating less ice cream and that you now fit comfortably into your jeans. Loved what you mentioned about your friend Joan who lives in Australia.

That thrilled me, really. Because now you can say that you have a friend who lives in the Philippines and that you visit her often as well! (ha ha!)

But seriously now, we do need to simplify in this blogging world. Sometimes it can be overwhelming.

So please know that in my blogging relationships, I make no demands. I'm happy to be a friend to anyone who will take me as I am.

I loved my time here. I'll drop in again one of these days.

Love
Lidj

SC was the same with the carwash at first, however loves it now. Me? Not so much - I always worry I won't line the wheels up properly and get glared at by the attendant! x

Interesting observation about what men and women do--I always wait until the other car is totally out--

I can so identify with the first part--when our middle son was born, car washes had just been born also--when we would go through one, I would have to get out of the car and hold him while my husband and older son went through it.

Anything for those precious kiddos!

Always enjoy your "take" on things, Lea.

Love,
Dianne

My 2 year old was also very frightened at first, now he almost jumps out of his chair while going through the car wash. The one we drive through has these pretty colors yellow, pink and baby blue, I mean the foam has this colors..
Have a wonderful Thursday, a safe trip and a fabulous time in Brazil xxx

Does your car wash have colored suds? The kids get a scream out of that.

I'm all about the bucket and the hose. I am one of those bizarre people who find washing the car rewarding.

And don't even get my started on my fulfillment through ironing.
