five times the grace!

dear emily,

last night i lay in bed praying for you and the eminent birth of your sweet #5.
i even awoke from a dream praying for you.  see how much the Lord loves
you?

i have a special affinity for you now that we both will have five children.  it
is the number of grace and redemption in the bible.  here are a few illustrations
of the number five.

historians maintain that the israelites marched out of egypt in ranks of five.

david picked up five smooth stones.  I samuel 17:40

the Lord told abram to sacrifice five animals (heifer, goat, ram, dove, and
pigeon.)  genesis 15:9

when God changed abram's name to abraham, He added the fifth letter.

"five of you will chase 100 . . ." leviticus 26:8

i know my kids have grown fond of pretending you might name this
precious one "nickel." :)  nickel, obviously, stands for five shiny pennies
and is a silvery-white metal.

"and the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace
of clay, purified seven times."  psalm 12:6

no pressure.  :)

love,
lea

Oh so loved this...because I did this when our fifth was due...it also meant that we would be a family of seven and seven is the number of completion...but God wasn't finished with us yet, and ten years later, we added another! I have to admit, I haven't looked up number 6 meanings.

My grandmother and I were the only ones on both sides of our family that had five children....I loved that I had that in common with her. I was her first grandchild!

So enjoyed....

Five is a magic number, my fifth was my first child with brown eyes. My fifth was almost born in the shower. :) Long story. At Home. My fifth is the one who continues to read my heart. He knows me best. I always say it took me five babies to get one for me. They always upon birth loved Dad best. Except my fifth. Yes, number five is special. But you see, I wanted 10 so I didn't stop, God had a different idea and I stopped at six.
It is a lovely post Lea and I do hope dear Emily is greatly comforted.

My dearest Lea,
I can definitely relate to you, after reading around your blog a bit. I am a 57 year old mom (my dear husband passed away 22 months ago) of five children, three are my own, and two are my sons' lovely wives. I also have one grandson, and another one coming in just two months.

My heart melted at the story of your hamster. Please tell your youngest that I am sure his beloved pet will be with him in heaven.

Thank you for visiting my blog. Discovering your blog is a gift of grace to me today.

I love the number five too, my youngest now aged 25 is a lovely young woman named Grace. This year 2010 is a year of double grace - 5 + 5 = 10.

Blessings,
Lidj

I come from a family of 5 childen and someone told my Mum that a quiver had five arrows hence the following verse was special "Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them." Psalm 127:4-5

God bless Emily and her husband as another little one is added to their family. (I have two aunts with five children each. Those families have some of the best fun! And I can't imagine them without the "fifth wheel." Both men are such a blessing to their families and much loved.)

Hello,

I enjoyed your comment you made on my post on Kat’s blog ☺.

I also have five children ☺. But five is not my favorite number when it comes to children, I would gladly make it six or more! If only…sigh.

Hi, Lea,
Five is an important number..We give the high five when we congratulate someone else on an accomplishment or when we reach an agreement...we have five fingers on each hand...we have five important senses...we count by fives...so many fives there are in each of our lives. I so much enjoy reading your sage advice to readers. Thank you for your support, too.
Love, Ruby

It takes special parents to raise 5 kids. Emily and her husband have some great examples to follow!
