dear emily,
what was life like before iphones? i'm trying to remember
my loved ones' faces, as i mostly just see the tops of their
heads now.
my worship pastor asked me if i had one, and i quickly
responded, "no way! everyone i know who has one, gets
married to it!" i didn't know i felt that strongly until that
popped out of my mouth. poor guy was just going to invite
me to play 'words with friends'.
that's what my sweet husband was playing . . . during the
church service last week. . . with my daughter! i wanted
to raise my hand and tell on them. :)
i have found iphone messages in the morning from young
mommies, "well, here i am nursing my baby at 3:00 in the
morning." seriously? when i was a new mommy, i stumbled
into the nursery in the middle of the night barely opening my
eyes. i used to pray that i wouldn't fall out of the rocker.
remember when everyone had carpal tunnel disease from
spending so much time at the computer? well, i'm afraid
there is going to be a new more threatening disease, called
carpal iphonal.
the left hand will freeze in a clawlike state and become
useless for any other task than holding an iphone.
it will be up to those few non-iphoners to care for the rest
of the world. thankfully, though "many are the afflictions
of the righteous, the Lord delivers him out of them all."
(psalm 34:19)

My Hubby has an iphone and it confuses me...I just have a cell that I can answer or make a call if I need to :)

No iphone here, but we do have the iTouch which we love. Usually I have a million other things to do so I don't use it a whole lot, but it is convienient and has come in handy. I use the internet on that more then the one on my phone.

I do not have an iphone and I do not want one.
I have a cell phone and if it wasn't for the fact I'm afraid I might break down in my car or miss a REAL emergency, I would have it either.
When I'm out on a date with my guy (or even just haggin'), I make him take his ear-phone OFF! After all, he's with ME...not the world!

I had to chuckle reading your post today. I am an I-phoner, I must say, and really love it, even though I'm only using a small portion of all its capabilities. Glad to know there will be a few non i-phoners out there to rescue us someday!!

Lea!!! You know I am addicted to my iPhone, but I absolutely can NOT talk on it. Being at 60%plus hearing loss renders the audio useless. I instead use it for email, text, facebook, ebay, wordswithfriends, youtube, renner.org, fumctulsa.org, biblegateway.com, and last but not last but certainly not least www.myletterstoemily.blogspot.com. Is that wrong?
Also I use it to text the sound man at First Methodist from the piano DURING services. About sound problems. But sometimes about football scores.
And sometimes I even use it to text my friends if I don't see them in the choir loft to make sure they are okay or get an update if they might be somewhere really exciting.
I was going to give it up for Lent but I went with dark chocolate instead. How is Hailey?
so stinking funny this post is! I'm surprised I can blog I am pretty incapable when it comes to technology...those things are tempting tho I must say...they seem to be all the rave

errrrgh! this texting is a pet hate of mine. how is it you will look at 2 people sitting at a table in a restaurant, face to face, and either one or both are busy with their phones.... what's up????????
I also look at the top of my kids heads a lot these days! And those fingers move faster than mine used to through the yellow pages!

I have a lowly track phone that I take when I go somewhere in the car. If I'm going to be 'married' to a gadget it'll be here..on the computer, which I'm very good at doing (o: cute post!

My husband and I, not big fans of phones of any kind, were noticing in the L.A. airport this past weekend that almost everyone, including tykes and oldsters, was attached to some sort of cell phone, Iphone, or laptop. The older Chinese lady sitting next to me on the plane was attached to some sort of video game the entire way home. All were talking to persons not actually present. Brave new world, but not too very good or kind I think. Besides, I am getting tired of turning to respond to the person next to me who is talking, only to find they are plugged into a phone and carrying on conversation while they shop, with someone far away.Guess I am older than I think, and kind of grumpy about phones in general.
BTW, I have a cell phone, could not tell you it's number and have it only for emergencies. It stays in the car. I hate the phone and my family rolls their eyes at my intense dislike of phones and probably curses me because I seldom answer the phone. Did I mention I HATE the phone?
I don't have one yet either but our current guests have been extolling its virtues ... its catching I fear. Hubby is currently hoping for an iPad sooner rather than later.
So true! I saw something on a news station about a teenage girl that was going to have surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome from too much texting. I shared that story with my teenage daughter who just said, "Really?" and kept right on texting. Carla

I must confess that I have a love relationship with my "iPhone" and all things Apple. My husband even calls me his "iWife"! I love my phone's capabilities but am striving to use it appropriately. I recognize the barrier it (and other technologies) can create. Funny how technology was created to aid communication, etc., but is now inhibiting it when overused. I liked your post and reading the reactions.
I have been tempted, but I seriously fear having to be connected all the time. I don't want the dependence on that. I feel guilty enough about my time on the computer, just can't bring myself to do it. I hope I hold firm. All things in moderation, right?

I feel exactly the same way. I don't want one. I have enough distractions the way it is. I don't need more. No texting, no emails on it. Can't take pictures. All I do is talk and that's not that much! ha ha. the claw hand sounds mighty scary! Have a great weekend!

No fancy phone, but I do have text capability. I rarely use it, which drives my family and coworkers crazy!
Nothing makes me happier than the end of the workday when I can turn the ringer off my blackberry, plug it into the charger, and walk away. It only gets to come out when I leave the house, and that's only in case my car breaks down.

That said I won't abuse. It upsets me to no end to see people glued to their phones, whether they are walking around, running errands or seated at a table. We went out for ice cream the other night and my daughter was texting. In a voice too loud I implored that she put the "thing" away. We do not text in restaurants or ice cream parlors. We need to come up with some sort of iPhone iEttiquette for sure!
i think someone needs to step off the anti-iphone train. we can enjoy our text/calls only phone while they mess with all the other weird buttons.
I have no desire for one of those. Don't really need it. I just have a cell phone for safety. Thanks for stopping by.

I've never understood texting and I never plan to do it. They say that soon, all phones will be "smartphones" and we'll all have to carry around PDAs and be on the G3 network and be bombarded by texts. I think I will rebel and refuse as long as possible. I like my simple flip phone. I like your blog too!

Lea, I remember when no one had cell phones or answering machines and we all lived quite happily. If we missed a phone call, the caller would try again...or not.... It was perfect.
I am the only grown up I know who has never owned a cell phone. My husband has one and I have a hard time remembering which buttons to push to access things like stored phone numbers...because I rarely use it.
And yet I am a happy soul, perhaps happier than most because I don't speak FB or tweet either. Come on over to the dark side.....it's peaceful here. ;)
I loved this post as I am looking forward to buying an Iphone when we move to Arizona in the summer...never saw the point of them now, but somehow they appeal to me. Must be my new Mac that has me apple crazy. Thanks for popping by my post, now following.

Yes, everyone I know who has an iphone does love it.
I only have calling and text on my old cell phone. Even then, my college age son was on a trip to Florida and texted me the entire time. I think he only called when he needed me to check the weather online when they were on the Interstate.
He has an iTouch (since he already had a new cell phone when the iphone came out). It does keep him organized so it is worth the money he paid. :)

men? most men were surgically stitched to their TV/stereo remotes. now they can take this *button-filled wonder* everywhere. bad idea. LOL.
yeah, texting in church is a big problem...we can't give the Lord an hour now? sheesh. LOL.
I'm non-iphoner. In fact, as time progresses, I'm moving backwards.
No microwave, no TV, no radio, no dishwasher, no electric mixer, etc - and I'm finding that life

and is more enjoyable without all that "helpful" stuff.
Nursing a baby is about as wonderful a time as I can think of. I can't imagine mucking that special time up w/ an iphone, but then again, I'm backwards. :)
My boys laugh at me. I rarely have my "cell" phone on, that's right, not an i-phone. Couldn't really even tell you what one is. I don't text message; don't want to. Too lazy and too busy with life (real life face-to-face chats) to really care a whole lot.
Guess I'm in for a heap of trouble regarding my "down the road" and technology.
