make way for goslings

dear samara,

several weeks ago a gaggle of geese descended upon the 'island' by
our lagoon.   their graceful long necks and soft grey feathers were
beautiful.   i thought that surely swans could not be lovelier and was
sad when they flew away.   hans said that he wouldn't miss all the
honking.

we were strolling along the grounds last night and noticed two of the
geese had remained with a surprise.   six surprises!   can you guess?
yep, six fluffy grey goslings.   they reminded me of your baby chicks
but with longer necks, and i haven't heard any chirping.

today they walked up the big hill and around all ten acres.   can you
imagine?   their little legs must have been so tired.   i followed them
down to the lagoon, while the goose (mommy) and the gander (daddy)
took turns watching me.   i wished you were with me to see how cute
the goslings were, imitating everything their mom and dad did.

i hope that if i visit them a few times each day and leave them a present
of bread crumbs, then maybe they will let me get closer.   what if the
geese return every year?   then i might call myself a grandgoose.

miss you,
lea

Lea, I loved your gossling story. How fun it might be to be a grandgoose! am visiting my son and family in northern Indiana. Their subdivision has many little ponds interspersed throughout the neighborhood. There is always the honking of geese. Yesterday morning while walking, I saw the strangest sight. There was a goose purched at the highest peak of a three story home. He/she seemed to have a purpose for being there, but it was most unusual to here the honking from a rooftop.

They are a wonderful affirmation of Spring! Let's hope the weather will cooperate from now on ;)

The proliferation of geese in our area (not particularly suited for geese) has become quite a problem. They seem to think they own a busy four lane highway, for instance. Not to mention the "calling cards" they leave behind wherever they gather....

...and in response to your prior post - particularly the statement "fruit should only be smooshy in a pie", I agree! I AM curious about your workout schedule. It sounds quite organized. Keep it up.

I hope they stay too. They are so pretty. I was driving one morning early and there was one sitting in the grass by Wal Mart. I was staring so much and wished I had my camera. Then I noticed I was driving a car, maybe I should keep my eyes on the road.
I wouldn't get anything done if they were in my pond.
I hope they decided to live there.

Love this time of year and all the new birth around us in nature. My honey saw some goslings too, but I have yet to see the precious things. They are the cutest, that's for sure!

I reached Psalm 104 at Burnbrae Journal this week and I see you have selected it for your verse too ... mine for Autumn and yours for spring. The wonderful cycle of sleep and new birth happens again.

Love this! Make way for Ducklings is one of my favorite children's books and I'm sure we could substitute goslings in the story!

How fun! They just might jmake your home a regular rest stop for their annual travels.

Happy Mothers Day to Mother Goose. =)

Grandmother Goose perhaps, but certainly not a grand goose. ☺ Your post reminds me so much of my ongoing journey with Kim at Imagery by Kimberly. I know that you're going to enjoy watching this family and seeing the goslings grow up so fast. Happy Mother's Day, Lea!

Hi Lea! I do love these birds. Good thing you stayed out of range! They can be very protective! It will be fun to see them grow! You can still be a Grandmommy for the chicks! :)
