the rise and fall of the united states empire

dear emily,

when i flip through the channels and pass by a "housewife" series, i have
conflicting responses.   my first inclination is to speed up, as one crazy lady
with gigantic green manacles will be screaming at a terrifying woman in an
enormous diamond collar.   who would subject herself to watch such horror?
there is a perfectly good sci-fi channel for that.

on the other hand, it is somewhat intriguing (from a strictly anthopological
stand point) to realize that our curiousity about their inane lives is probably
the final signal of our nation's downfall.   when the apes take over, they will
display these housewives in cages as a lesson of our demise to their young.

not the tea party.   not obama care.   snarling housewives.

love,
lea

So true. Not to mention why I don't have network T.V. In our home. To many bad influences being brought in the house by the sewer channels. :)

I blame reality TV for the dumbing down of America...not that I think there's anything remotely realistic about any of those shows. ;-)

Yup. True. Though I don't think that OC is going to help much either. =D

Even though I am guilty of watching a series or two of the housewives (pure research on seeing if there are other people as self-centered/ absorbed as Mr. G.'s family ..lol). I was just saying to a friend the other day - how sad that the behaviour on these shows is what young impressionable minds are taking in as acceptable. I will be honest - there are many times when I have to turn the channel - all the antics really can be overwhelming and cause anxiety.

Great post my friend... Hugs and blessings, C. (HHL)

I totally get this! It made me smile to read it yet because I have the same reaction.

Lea, I've never seen any of those programs and have no intentions of every watching them. The few times I've seen something similar (Iranians in LA...?) I was appalled at their behavior, dress, speech. It's terribly sad when people stoop so low to whore themselves in the name of...what? I really don't know. Low self esteem, no self respect surely play a part. Aren't those programs called "reality" t.v.? What's real about them? Other than the time they steal from folks who watch them?

yes.

So well said, Lea. And can you believe "Wife Swap" is actually a show on at prime time on a major network? Yes, reality TV will be the record of a fallen nation.

I haven't seen it...but I do believe women are leaving their first love...their God and their families...in order to be something that we really don't want to copy or pass down to the next generation. Yes, it is sad.

I've not watched the shows ... not to my taste but I think a lot of that kind of stuff it is harmless frippery. After all those of us who watch murder mysteries for example don't become murderers.

There was a time when the theatre, movies, dancing, Sunday sport, mowing the grass on Sunday etc etc were deemed harmful to our Christian experience and yet did it really matter when we started doing them?

It is sad that the very things that draw attention are so trivial and even harmful. Oh for the days when the sterling hero's and great ladies captured admiration! We must hang in there and pray!
