her hawk

she awaits the afternoon storm with growing anticipation.   her heart
leaps at the wind's gentle keening, and she runs to the porch to watch.

her hawk circles gracefully over the verdant pasture then cries possessively,
"this is my valley, and i will do what i want here!"

she knows his fierce eyes are hunting for prey, but she pretends he is calling
to her.   though, what he would say to such a pitiful creature is best left
unsaid.   as the wind increases in might, he heads into it and serfs the perfect
wave.

she wants to shout and sing but can only watch, speechless, in awe of the
grace and strength.   and then the rumble of distant thunder speaks for her.

love,
lea

Beautiful. We have hawks flying over all the time looking for creatures down the hillside. Thank you for stopping over. You are a no-reply so I could not answer your comment. We have had a few Westies over the years. We bought our first one 40 years ago about a week after we got married. Love them. When we lost our last Westie I did not want to replace her so we got Skye who is Cairn Terrier like toto! Just as wonderful as the Westies.

I am always please to see a post from you. On our recent trip I saw eagles soaring. They are so powerful and beautiful.

As nature is majestic and overwhelming, the more is our God;
"He makes the clouds His chariot and rides on the wings of the wind."
You have captured the spirit of both nature and scripture.

Love the hawk story. I used to love seeing the hawks around here too. My mom has a friend who has a wild hawk that comes and sits on her deck. The friend runs out and feeds the hawk raw chicken. I decided I wanted to try that too. So one day when my friendly hawk was circling, I ran out like a crazy woman and put a piece of chicken on my shed. I was happy when in less than five minutes the hawk came and ate my chicken. That continued for the summer and the hawk came faster each time I put out the chicken.

Then I decided to I needed to raise my own chickens. Guess where they are? In the same shed that I put the raw chicken on.

I did a really great job of training the hawks to eat my chickens...
