Light

dear emily,

my friend from 'his song to sing' encouraged me to memorize scripture again,
and now i can't imagine why i ever stopped.    well, i can.   my enemy lies to
me and says, "you don't really want to do this, it will take SO much time.
wouldn't you rather think about yourself?  what to wear, how to fix your hair?"

i remind myself of the wicked witch, "mirror, mirror on the wall . . . "

anyway, now that i'm feeding the part of myself that isn't reflected in a
mirror, my soul is growing nice and fat.    if only my body would get lean.

we have a small problem with light sneaking under and around the drapes in
our bedroom.    we've tried adding light inhibiting panels to no avail, so every
morning the light finds a way in.    darkness can not overcome light, but light
certainly can shine into darkness.

i have been feasting on this very passage from john 1 and would add, "in Him
was life, and that life was the light of men."

to Light,
lea

Wonderful reminders. I love memorizing scripture and often wished in my teenage years I was putting God's word in instead of all of those rock songs that are apart of my mind.
We had a lady come to our home who was in a prison camp for smuggling Bibles. She told about being in that place and after the torture and the horrible things that happened, how, in the quiet, God's word would flood her mind. It would give her such strength for the next trial.
I learned so much from her.
So it is always a good thing to hide God's word in our heart. :)

Aren't scripture songs a wonderful way to learn scripture? I like that way best because it is easier for me to get it in there. There have been many times when I have been grateful that the words were put to memory... late at night when it seems very dark indeed.

I love the imagery about how your soul is growing nice and fat--what a rich idea!

I love the way you connected the light sneaking into your bedroom to the scripture.

And I need to work on that scripture memory business, too. Thanks for the reminder. ;-)

Oh a desire of my heart also...I have scripture all over the house where I stop in hopes that I can get more down in my heart, so I will not sin against Him..but I must say, I still have trouble telling some one the scripture reference even if I can quote the scripture

Great post...now I don't believe that about your house...you are too funny!
I have loved!!!!!!!!!! Walking on Water by Madeleine L'Engle...as a singer I am sure you relate to so much of it

Hmmm, is that the Lord nudging? I read the Bible almost every morning but I don't memorize Scripture. It's hanging on my walls in the form of photos with verses or embroidery but I rarely memorize.
A fat soul...love it, Lea!

I always enjoy memorising scripture. One time when I was younger I memorised the entire book of James. It felt wonderful. Nowadays I don't do it so much, but we all have a weekly scripture we say just before worship. This keeps me memorising and I'm thankful for it because I don't know if I'd take the initiative.

What a wonderful thought! I haven't memorized scripture in years, but you have encouraged me to work on it again. Light is a powerful guide.

I'm still working on that passage in John also, Lea, though the deadline is long past. The important thing is that we are back and feasting on the Word, right?

Thanks for the link!

Memorizing the Word is so important to give us right thinking and a good perspective - AND to understand His ways! I'm so thankful for the verses committed to longterm memory from my youth. But I know the need - the older I get to freshen my mind continually with memorizing new portions of His Word. Thanks for the encouragement!
