that's a lie!

as i was sitting beside my father in law's hospital bed, i found a
copy of the "new yorker" magazine.  before i ever read those, i
thumb through to see the hilarious cartoons.  the first one i saw
depicted a "blog pie chart."

google image

i was a little downcast, because i knew just what third i fit in.  i
don't sell anything, and even though i love the movie, conspiracy
theory, i'm not into writing about them.  my stories clearly fall into
the first group . . . boring, boring, boring.

so i decided to shut down the old blog, but then i read a couple of
the blogs i love.   each one shared an inspiring story that burrowed
into my heart.

why in the world did i let the new yorker influence me in even the
smallest way?  i only read it once every ten years or so.   and why
do i still, at 53, care what other people say?  when am i going to
grow up?  who cares if i'm boring?

boring is the new black.

love,
lea

You're not boring! They're just jealous that people read blogs more often than their dumb magazine. ;)

Also, I need your address dear. I have a present for you! It may or may not be green....bitoflifeblog@gmail.com

Lea, I love the New Yorker too (I subscribe) and I love Roz Chast, the woman who drew the cartoon. She has a very tongue-in-cheek sense of humour.

Most of us have blogs that fit into the slice-of-life category, and that's a good thing. :-)

You're definitely not boring.

Don't even think about "blog stopping!" Is that a word? It kind of sounds like "gobstoppers", which is my favorite bubble gum. My dentist will tell you I should give up the gobstoppers but never the MLTE blog! Your blog shoots good arrows right into my heart every single time. Like this one.

PS The New Yorker reminds me a little of MAD magazine. For grownups.

Oh Lea, at 53 try as I do, I still worry about what other people think. I tell myself over and over all that matters is what God thinks. When I first started blogging my husband told me a rhyme he had heard about blogging. I had the hardest time trying to continue to keep blogging. But then I thought so what. I love the friends I have made and I think God brought them in my life. God hasn't told me to stop, and like everything, it looked weird when we were home schooling and we were blessed. I think the same thing about blogging, it might look weird to the New Yorker, but so did a man dying on the cross.
We can minister to people and for me it is a gift.
I hope you never stop blogging.

I'm obviously a very boring blogger so I'm happy to be in the Boring club too, Lea! Can I join in?

Who cares what others think. I give thanks everyday for blogging: if it weren't for blogging I would not have met you and all the other lovely virtual friends I have made from all around the world!

Boring bloggers unite!

Best wishes,
Natasha.

Somewhere in that so-called "boring" category (I couldn't find that word in the comic, by the way. A.hem.), there are inspirational blogs that offer a thoughtful point of view with the God-given power to change a day, and, perhaps, a life. And that is the category to which your blog belongs, my sister.

For some reason, this hits my funny bone! Of all the things I love about your blog... boring has never entered my mind!

I think we all get to that 'i'm quitting, this is crazy' place, and then before long, we miss our old buddies and the insight, laughter and wisdom we find on these pages. Not to mention that God gives each of us thoughts and words when the time is right, and they are passed along to someone else who might be in the same place. It's a fellowship, just as real as a ladies tea party or even a Bible study group.

I did draw the line on Facebook though.. I just don't care what flavor of bath bubbles someone I was in 3rd grade with is about to pour. My kids all think I'm missing something... not me! :)

My visits to your pages are always a treat... always!! I love it when I see you've posted a new one, so don't quit, just do it when you feel like it.

I've read your blog for a while
now and you are never boring.
Funny? Yes. Boring? No. I love
to read about everyone's hobbies
and what they're doing in everyday
life.

You're not boring!!! I truly believe there are readers for every blog. And what the New Yorker folks find boring, others find inspiring!

You are not at all boring! I read your blog all of the time...that magazine...not so much! Carla

You are not one bit boring. The New Yorker can be one snooty magazine, though I am chuckling at that cartoon. I know right where I fit, too. Sigh.

You are not boring. Your blog is not boring. Your blog is yours. You can do whatever you want with it. You can say whatever you want. :) So there, New Yorker.

That is such a good verse - and so true in every area of our lives isn't it? Comparing - not wise! With it comes a close cousin - coveting; someone else's lives, talents, blogs, ya - not good! Thanks for your great posts. Always nice to come by here!

Okay first confession...I haven't read all the other comments so I am probably repeating, which makes my comment....boring!!!

When has the secular media ever been right? They wouldn't know about all the relationships that have been built, they wouldn't know that God is knitting His body together through this media...isn't the media the ones who wrote "God is Dead"? They wouldn't know how many people have had their hearts touched and healed through another's blog.

How could they understand any of that?

Boring, you boring...oh give me a break...what a lie from the pit of Hell. You write and the readers flock to your words and comment...that indicates you aren't boring.

Now get your little fingers typing again and make them run in shame for discouraging you!!!

Hugs...and Hook 'em Horns!! I think that is where we started our relationship last year...UT/OU...and you were off to a wedding. Watch out we have another McCoy this year!

That's one sad person's take on blogs. I enjoy reading your blog. The ones that this cartoonist deems as "boring" are actually the most-read blogs out there. He's probably a wanna-be blogger with no followers. ;)

You're certainly not boring. Why else would you have so many people commenting on your blog.

You're right. You just had a moment of madness. You know what makes sense and have value in your life. Don't let others tell you what to think.

Fabulous cartoon! It cracked me up.

I am absolutely certain there are times when my posts are boring or bothersome. I write them anyway, because my reason for penning them in the first place is really for the little people I call "the grands". I hope one day they'll have a collection that will reveal to them who, exactly, their grandmother was. I wish my mother & grandmother had done likewise.

Keep posting. You anything but boring!

I am so glad that you have chosen to continue to blog! Although I do not get by as often as I would like (I find that I am forever behind in my blog visiting!), I am so very happy to have met you through blogging! Your posts are always filled with encouragement and thoughtful insight!

I did start my blog in order to share a little about me and my family that is behind the art that I do, but I must say that wow, I have gotten so much back through the many blog friends that I have met that I otherwise would not have met. And I hope that some of the family stories/memories (while I remember them!) I share will be something that our future grandchildren would like to look back on :o)

Blessings & Aloha!
& thank you my friend for stopping by and your kind comments!

Oh my goodness did I ever relate to this post...I have had MANY of the same thoughts.....my life seems ordinary and boring, so why write, right? haha....But let me just say I soo enjoying this blogging world. I love hearing the lives and thoughts of so many other women. I believe God has knit our hearts together to encourage each other, and to just enjoy each other. I am soo glad YOU blog. Have a wonderful week-end! HUGS

I'm so glad you recognized that lie and so glad you didn't shut down the blog. Just think, if you had shut it down, I would not have met you and been blessed by your story!
Plus, just think...if you only read it once every ten yrs, that says alot about just who might be in that boring category ;) and not that it matters what I think...but you are definitely not boring!

please don't ever stop writing. i would be devastated. as would many others. you are anything but boring, and truth be told i've compared myself w/ you and felt i come up short. rule #1: no comparing. comparison really is the thief of joy and creativity, and life.
you're precious. i'm glad you chose to not believe that lie. :)

Lea, I know that blogs and bloggers are often joked about, but I love these peeks into others lives. It is not boring! I love seeing what someone else is making, what someone else is cooking, how someone else is decorating their homes, how someone else spends their days...I, for one, love the beauty of ordinary days. Thank you for sharing yours with me.
