time flies

my very wise son, isaac, remarked recently that it's not just fun
stuff that makes time fly but activities that consume us.   he was
using the illustration of taking a test that required all his
attention and realizing that four hours passed so quickly.

he wouldn't exactly call that test, 'fun', but the time sure flew.

today i scrubbed, made beds, and organized my home for hours,
but it sped by like minutes.  the back of my hands are sore and
chafed, but i didn't even notice them when it happened.

i feel full, fat, and happy, but none if it was really 'fun'.

why do we seek  'fun' so desperately?  it would be better to
search for good, hard work that yields satisfying results, i think.  or better yet do what our Lord so beautifully urged, "seek first His kingdom and His
righteousness, and all these things will be added . . . " mt. 6:33

i always wanted to say "selah",

What a beautiful picture of a happy smiling family! Love that~

We have been discussing this in my home lately, having fun no matter what you do. Today as I rolled our homemade tortilla dough into balls, my 2yr old came up to me and said "mama can I play with you?" I thought to myself, 'How sweet and yes I should be having fun shouldn't I?'

Hope your hands are feeling better~

I love, love that picture. Is that your family? Is that you? If it is you are adorable. I had to laugh at what you said, because I worked all day too and before I knew it, it was time for dinner. I never stopped all day, Work is good.

What a nice, happy picture!

Sounds just like my day! I guess Monday's are just for cleaning. :)

My husband and I feel the same way about work. We're not really "party" people but to us our fun is just doing the normal day to day work that goes along with life!

Yes, this is a great reminder, lea. Unfortunately, for me, sometimes time spent on reading/writing blogs makes too much time pass too quickly. I have to be careful!

Is this the entire gang? What a group! You all look as if you know how to have fun no matter what you do. I'm not sure about our search for "fun," though I am certain that more of our activities will feel meaningful and worthwhile when done with a positive mindset. I'll go off and take my own lesson now. Thanks for always discussing something with "meat on its bones."

Love the picture...oh the joy of a large family...I must do one of those with our gang soon, just a silly picture

Oh I so agree with this post...God has been working that in my heart lately, well said. There is such contentment found in just doing what we need to do...it satisfies the soul.

I love the feel "full and happy"....I am sure you aren't fat...it is a great feeling.

My dear friend thank you for visiting.. I have been trying to keep up with visits and blog reading... I love your idea of the small pocket bible .. I'm going to see about getting one myself and keeping it with me.

Time does fly by ... but you choice of verse is so true .. happiness is a by product of how we live our lives.. a good reminder.

Wishing you a fabulous time in the mountains , hope you'll share some beautiful photos in your posts. xo HHL

what a beautiful bunch! LOVE the picture of everyone just hanging! It's the stuff that makes me the happiest too, just being with our kids and theirs.

Now the scrubbing part is looming, so this week is for THAT! :(

remember seeing a picture of you.

And I agree with all you've said

I completely agree with this post! Is there nothing more satisfying then when we have worked hard, and we can look back and see just what we have complished.

Love the picture of what I am guessing is you and your sweet family!

Time does fly by ... as I am watching my children grow it only seems to pass quicker. I love your happy photograph. It just serves as a reminder that we should all slow down and enjoy the time we have instead of wasting it or complaining about it.

I agree.
The desperate search for fun has become both a drug and heavy industry.
We need to stay put in the real world and find fun in our daily work, our family the company of good friends and then play when the chores are done.
That is true fun.

Your son is wise. Getting deeply involved in something does make time fly by ... I love that feeling!

I had to come over here and tell you that I don't ever think I have seen my husband get so excited over a comment on my blog as he did over your last comment. Neither of us really could figure out just what to use on our hardwood floors. Guess what he went out and bought...;-). Thanks for the idea.

I know just what you mean. My work day goes by so much faster when it's busy. And the weekends just fly, though they're filled with errands and work in the house and yard. Happiness can indeed come without "fun".

Thanks for stopping by at my place! I'll be back to catch up.

Boy, I wish time sped by for me when I was cleaning, scrubbing, etc. :o I must admit, though, it does fly by when I'm doing the creative parts of homemaking (cooking, quilting), and I know that I must discipline myself to do the parts I don't enjoy so much (cleaning, scrubbing). Thank you for your lovely thoughts.
