in the trenches

dear emily,

there has been no rain for 7 days, and my newly planted trees are
distressed from the sun and wind.  since i have no outside water
source yet, i have been filling a bucket from the nearby pond and
lugging it to each tree.  not a practical way to water, but it might
help my flabby arms.

this morning i dug tiny trenches from the stream to each tree.   it
was lovely watching the water escape its boundary and become  a
new tributary winding its way to my poor dry trees.   also, once i
became good and muddy, i began to have more fun.  my little dog
kept looking up at me as if to say, "does your mom know what
we're doing?"

love,
lea

"for I will pour water on the thirsty land,
and streams on the dry ground;
I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring,
and my blessing on your descendants.

they will will spring up like grass in a meadow,
like poplar trees by flowing streams."
isaiah 44:3,4

Your dog is cute as can be! I remember during GA's drought, we would actually save bath water and lug it around to all the plants in a large trash can. What a job! Hope you have a wonderful week!

There's no better exercise than good old fashion work. Plus you get your trees watered :-) Did you at least have help? I would have helped you. Brought some kiddos along and we could had a line from the pond to the trees. We could have sung "Hi-Ho! Hi-Ho! It's off to work we go" :-)

Glad you got the job done~ Cinnamon

you would have been fine if you had lived back in the days of no conveniences. Hauling water and digging a trench... you just do what needs doing! :)

I know you're having a great summer! Love your little dog.

I'm not a gardener at heart but when it comes to trees I do anything I can to keep them watered and healthy. Our area has had plenty of rain so this year it isn't as much of a problem.

Sweet dog too!

It has been a crazy summer so far with all the weather patterns. We went 15 days with no rain and temps in the upper 90's and now we have had rain and storms for 8 days straight. Saving precious trees and flowers seems to be an all summer job. =) I hope yours will grow nicely.

Have a wonderful week,
Jen

Animals and children make us become young at heart.
Isn't that a wonderful remedy?
Splashing around in muddy trenches.
What fun.

What a time to have new trees needing watering. Are you having the same drought as Texas? Oh I do hope not. Very clever of you to figure out a stream because hauling all that water is not easy. I won't think about that verse again without thinking of you dragging buckets of water to your little trees. Cute, cute puppy!

Oh Lea, thanks for the chuckle; I can well relate to "flabby arms". Early days on the farm, I had to lug water to my horses. Every time I did, I thought of Old Testament Rachel...was it? who offered to water the camels. Can you imagine? Each camel drink 30, or more, gallons of water and she pulled water from the well for all those camels. Now, that woman was a keeper!
