crumbs from the table

dear emily,

i would do many things differently, if i had the chance, but there is
one i would love to do over and over again.

when my children were 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11, i heard about a great
preacher who was to speak at the local Christian university.   as
i always wanted to expose the kids to inspiring men and women,
i purposed to take them.

unfortunately, as we slipped behind the 12 foot high doors of the
chapel, an usher whispered that the service was reserved for the
college students.  crushed, i  remembered the canaanite woman
who begged help for her daughter.

Jesus told her that he "was sent only to the lost sheep of israel. . .
it is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to their dogs."
(matthew 15: 24, 26)

her reply resounded in my ears, "yes, Lord, but even the dogs eat
the crumbs that fall from their master's table."  (mt. 15:27)  with
renewed courage, i heard myself say, "we won't take a seat from
any student but will just stand in the back."

the preacher was as anointed and full of God's power as any i
have ever heard.  as he closed his sermon, he looked to the back
of the auditorium and asked, "are those children back there?"  for
a moment i was afraid that we would be scolded, but instead, he
said, "bring them up here, so i may pray for them."

pretty sweet crumbs.

love,
lea

ps.  it was brought to me attention that i have already told this
story. . . sheesh.   oh well, chalk that up to old age. . . and get
used to it!

A lovely story. I always list my children's ages beginning with the youngest, too, for some reason.

A mother this courageous simply must be crowned with blessings.
I bet the preachers prayers for you and your children still are working.
That's one fact, which has been of great comfort to me; prayers don't expire on date.

Lea,
I love that like the woman in the Bible account , you would not be denied. Surely your children were meant to be there.

Oh Lea you were right..I love this story and reminds me of one of mine. My son was ushered to the front for someone to pray for him and I couldn't see him, so I boldly stood up on a chair..crying out to God, oh please I am sorry for standing in this chair, but I must see my son prayed for. After the service I was handed a note from a mother on how it blessed her to see a mother so eager to see God minister to her son...thanks for the reminder of God faithfulness to us Moms.

Oh my dirt bike oldest son comes to your state to race dirt bikes...so he is kicking up your mud!

sooooo funny! I knew you'd told this story before but thought you were telling it again...on purpose. It's a great story and bless that man of God for doing as Jesus said, "bring the children to me".

Wow, I love this story. Truly He was a man of God that He knew Jesus loves the little children. You are such a lady to have stayed and was an example for your beautiful children.

I don't care how many times you might share a story, certainly the Lord doesn't mind how many times we read His scriptures. I only know that I get something more each time I read the Bible. Truly I am inspired every time I visit your beautiful blog.
