the queen's speech

dear emily,

after enjoying the excellent movie, the king's speech, i kept
thinking about the positive influence of the queen.  her commit-
ment was inspiring, as she continued to drag her charming but
stammering husband to one speech pathologist after another.
does her loving perseverance  save the king's speech and rally
a nation?  if your history is shaky, you must watch the movie!

when i was a young bride i heard a teaching entitled, 'the power
of a woman to influence for good or evil.'  it stunned me, since i
had never thought much of my influence.  i was more concerned
with my tan in those days.

every woman from eve to deborah and jezebel to mary has
leveraged her influence toward the grievous or the worthy.  my
tally score is not as praiseworthy as i wish.  last night at dinner i
grumbled to my husband against a loved one instead of gently
urging him with kinder speech. . . the queen's speech.

love,
lea

Hi Lea, the hand that rocks the cradle rocks the world, for good or ill. Sometimes the cradle contains the child, sometimes the adult. I've not seen this movie but want to; is it as uplifting as it appears from the commercials?

Lea, I am so glad I heard that message when I was young too. The regrets I would have now if I had not been made aware of the power behind the throne. I still shiver about what I could have done to my home, my life and my marriage if I had not ran across Proverbs 14:1 A wise woman builds her house, a foolish one tears it down with her own hands. What heartache I could have caused.
Thanks for your recommendation of The Kings Speech. I am planning to see it if life ever slows down. :)

I thought the same thing after seeing the movie...the queen was certainly a good influence and totally devoted to the king. The good far outweighed "the bad" in this movie.

Love that you call it "the queen's speech". That will prompt me to better remember next time I open my mouth to my husband!

I've even heard it said that wives "civilize" their husbands and sons. Now that's power!

I haven't' seen this movie...yet! I have heard nothing but wonderful things about it. I have had a renewed purpose and love for my place as a wife and a mother over the past year. I have so much work to do, but thankfully my husband and children make it so easy.

Great reminder that we all influence those we come into contact with on a daily basis. We do need to be careful of our speech.
I have not seen the movie, it sounds like a must to see...:) Thanks for recommendting it.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Lea, what a great post! I sometimes forget the power I have over situations in my home. Thank you for the gentle reminder. Thanks for asking about Carson's music. We were unable to make any contacts in Nashville. Only one person even responded to our emails. I have decided that the Nashville music scene must be a private club that one can enter by invitation only. She is not discouraged, however. She is still singing her little heart out!

Loved the movie, and this post is beautiful and thought-provoking. Our influence is powerful, if not always immediately effective.

Lea,

I once heard an inspiration speech by a woman years ago. She said that if we want to lean on a man then we have to fluff him up just like a pillow.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I will. We did a semester studying the women in the Bible at Bible study. I was so taken with the strength of these women and the wisdom in which they treated the men in their life.

Once again so much said in so few words...a true gift.
Powerful words and I am convicted. I am so glad there is new grace and mercy each day.
Sounds like a good date movie.

I haven't seen it yet, but I like the message it gave!

Yes, I was pretty much all about the tan too... I see a lot more clearly now, but my 'tally' still needs the bar raised higher many days.

Hey... how was Sunday Lane's opening? I know it must have been great!

Yes it is an excellent and uplifting movie. I have been thinking of the very matters you raise in the context of my work recently ... I can join the grumbles or be a positive influence ... working on being the latter.

So true. "Death and life are in the power of the tongue." Prov. 18:21 Each word we speak influences one way or another doesn't it? Thank you for this important reminder.

I loved the movie, but did not ponder for very long what an influential role the Queen Mum played in the King's ability to overcome his stuttering. You're so right--her encouraging words probably made the difference in his willingness to give Lionel a go. What a difference her words made.

I confess that I have not yet seen this movie though it is getting so many accolades. And I love how you made the connection to "loftier" thoughts.

Did not see that movie, but I'm hearing a lot about it in blogland. Will def put that on my to-do list.

My tally score...not brag-worthy. But God is still putting up with me, and that's always good...

A great word, Miss Lea! So eloquently put! I wish my tally score was on the more uplifting side when speaking to my spouse. I will endeavor to work on that! As always, thank you for your gentle reminders!

Lea,

How true it is that a woman has such great influence - what a joy it is to lovingly support my husband and boys, influencing them toward Godliness in word and deed, as opposed to trying to be the head of the household, which I tried - uh! -what a disaster! So I say, it is good that my husband is the king, but it is also good to be his queen =)
Thanks for the post!
