the pioneer man

my 26 year old son has poked fun at our fascination with the
pioneer  woman.  he just doesn't get how we could be so taken
with this 'luci' in 'green acres' persona but last week called to
tell me that he was the pioneer man.  ?

after his friend's mom had a major surgery, my SON made them
spaghetti using the pioneer woman's recipe.  my mouth fell open
in wonder.  this basketball playin', law school attendin', pioneer
woman deridin' son of mine?

i thought i might have a little fun with this . . .

"dear pioneer man,

my biscuits never turn out light and fluffy as my husband likes
them.   could you please tell me what in the world i'm doing
wrong?

-an ardent fan"

google image

he responded . . .

"Dear fan,

Thanks for your trust.   Since I don't know exactly what you are
doing,  I cannot provide precise instructions.  But make sure to
use lots of butter and even a little dab of honey.

Remember, great cooks are not born----they are made.  Whatever
you do, keep on cooking!

Best of luck,
Pioneer Man"

now here's my final question.  why is he using the pioneer
woman's recipe and not mine?

love,
lea

comes from the mouth of the Lord."  deuteronomy 8:3

That's just too cute. I am sure
yours are every bit as good as
hers. I do love her though. I
have used some of her recipes
and they have all turned out
great. Your son sounds like a
real sweet guy. You raised him
well.

That is so funny. Wow, a boy who cooks and uses Pioneer Woman's recipe.
At least he has good taste. So glad he became a convert to the Pioneer Woman. Oh think of the things he will be able to cook. :)

Wish I could make biscuits! My son is only four so he's got a few years to go before he's cooking anything but mud pies. Thanks for stopping by!

This is just too funny! I think the guys in our lives, both old & young are smarter than they let on. They just pick at us to hide their interest so that we won't expect more from them. You have raised him right though .... preparing dinner for a friend who is sick is so thoughtful.

Have a wonderful weekend!

What a great story. It's obvious that you raised a caring young man. How wonderful to know that they beyond those teenage years, they actually begin to think about others. You should be very proud! Best wishes and blessings, Tammy

One of the cookbooks my husband owns is Pioneer Woman's. We are going to cook our way through it, bit at a time. Okay...HE is going to cook his way through it. I'm going to eat my way through it.

How wonderful that he took the time to make dinner for his friend's family - he is obviously a kind-hearted soul. You must be so proud!!

I just got off of The Pioneer Woman web site, just checking to see her latest recipe. I think you have a smart boy Lea, with the exception of choosing Ree's recipe over yours! :)

This is too cute. Just the fact that he even took the time to cook is quite fascinating. You raised him right! But your question does bring up a good point. My kids will be the ones to look to others for recipes... Cooking is not my forte. ; ) Maybe I better try one of the Pioneer woman's recipes; she might make me look good!

Wow! More of that great training over the years - jeepers, my kids sure won't get any of those great cooking abilities from me! My Mom, yes, but not from me! I am amazed sometimes by what our kids say or do. What a thoughtful son you have, Lea! I am sure his accomplishment left a huge smile on your face!!

Well lady you need to share your "mother's prayer notebook"... what a wonderful thing to do...and I am sure it was so encouraging to go through the verses.

Belly laugh. I have tried and tried to make biscuits for 36 years. It's not like I can't cook. But not biscuits. A couple years ago I was introducted to little frozen biscuits that cook in 20 minutes or so. I have taken a stand--only cheater biscuits in my future!

Don't know of the cook book but I have enormous admiration for both pioneer women and men. I love the way your blog makes me smile. I was wondering what type of things my Mum would have written if she had lived in the blogging era.

That is so cute! Funny how they always come around eventually. And how sweet of him to make food for someone in need.

P.S. Somehow I think the comment you left me yesterday is not true. ;)

He sounds just like mine. It's hard for them to give us credit. My gosh that would be like saying they learned something from us...LOL

I got him back the other day though on his facebook page. I know he's trying to get the attention of a girl, so he put his status as..."Would love to have that warm and fuzzy feeling when I talk to someone". I wrote a comment in response that said, "Buy yourself a Snuggie and call me". He was NOT amused.

This made me chuckle. And the picture made my mouth water.

Your son sounds like a wonderful young man. He may have the Pioneer Woman's spaghetti recipe, but you raised him. ;-)

It's funny how kids always know best. They grow up and start thinking that they know a lot more than you do. I wonder how we manage to bring them up with such limited knowledge. :-)

I have my own pioneer son. Aaron was invited to the Navy Captain's house for Thanksgiving, and get this - he made his favorite dish (chicken enchilada cassarole) to bring with him! The casserole was a big hit, but I was more blown away by my son's thoughtfulness. Honestly, I keep asking him, "How on earth did you turn out so great?" And no, it had nothing to do with moi...

I am not a pioneer woman, but close: One christmas, I copied all the recipes that I used when my children were growing up. I had the printer print them on card stock and cut them 3 x 5 card size. (Measure well on your 8 1/2 by 11 paper) Then I put them into recipe boxes and wrapped them as gifts for everyone on my list.
