i'm a coward, and that's why my heart is so stirred by heroism.
one of my favorite movies, "missing" with cate blanchett and
tommy lee jones, is chock full of it.
after her daughter is kidnapped by a depraved man and his gang
of unmerry men, a desperate mother is forced to beg her
estranged father for help. the picture earns its "R" rating in a
dozen ways but none of them can keep me from loving the
timeless tale of courage, devotion, and reconciliation.
when the indian grandfather is left for dead in the desert, he asks
a hawk to guide him home. does that seem silly?
bruce olson, the motilone missionary, tells a story of being
kidnapped and dragged into a south american jungle. when he
felt the most despair, God sent a bird to sing to him the entire
night.
in the final scene of "missing", the mother fiercely yells at the
wicked men, "fuera!", which means "leave!" . . .or, "satan, i
rebuke you in the name of Jesus!" :)
you will have to watch the movie yourself to see if they do.

Thanks for sharing about this--I'm afraid I wouldn't have given it a second look, otherwise.
oh dear,
i think everyone 'missed' my disclaimer.
this movie is totally graphically violent!
NOT for the faint of heart!!!!
Thank you for the review...I am always looking for a good movie and this sounds like just that!

Jane
I always wondered about that movie. I don't know, I think my imagination fills in to much.
I hope you are enjoying your holiday. I hope your house is ringing with laughter. Be careful when driving though. :)
Hi Lea,
I just watched this movie a couple of weeks ago. It was amazing! Furea ... that is neat to know!
Got some special news to share ...
I am going to be a grandma next summer.

I've not seen it, but your discussion of it makes me want to...very much.
Hmmm...I'll have to get my movie back out and watch it. It's been a few years since I watched this one, but I remember commenting to my husband that it was a very good movie. Blessings! Michelle
ps...I watched one this morning that left me sobbing and overwhelmed at how God had touched so many lives. (Letters to God)
Oh this would be heart wrenching...not sure if I could watch it.
xoxoxo
I have never seen this movie. It sounds interesting for sure!
Cate Blanchett is a great actress!I will have to also share this with my middle daughter. Cate Blanchett is one of her favorites!
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family.

Lea, I remembered your movie review on Doubt and bought it some time ago to watch so watched it tonight.
Sounds like a good one!
You must have read Bruchko, Bruce Olson's biography. Amazing man, amazing story. I couldn't put it down, nor read for the teary blurred eyes.
But I haven't seen your movie.
You, my friend, are a good saleman.
Love,
Dawn
You know, Lea, I must be the only person in the world who doesn't mind being told the ending before I watch the movie. My nerves get torn up and I'm beside myself watching tense movies. If I know things turn out all right, I can watch the movies but only then. There's just too much angst and evil in this ole world; my heart can't stand me adding to it.
As to using the name of God to stop an unwanted attack...I know, first hand, that the wicked cannot stand before the name of God or Jesus. If only for a second, the evil must turn from the name of God and, sometimes, that second is enough time to escape.
Bless His name forever!
John and I never go to movies together but I'll have to see if my adult niece has seen this one. Hope you are enjoying the weekend Lea.
I haven't seen this..now I will have to take the time to see it. Thanks for the suggestion.
