want to live a happy, fulfilled life?

dear emily,

did you know that many studies have shown that people are much
happier, healthier, and live longer if they do just one little, fun thing?

sing in a choir!

singing requires steady aerobic breathing which oxygenates the
bloodstream and releases those 'feel good' endorphins we all know
and love.  the same ones released from eating chocolate but without
any of the calories.

in fact, consistent prolonged singing is great exercise, working the
heart, lungs, back, and abdomen.  i typically lose two - four pounds
during the Christmas season from the additional rehearsals and per-
formances of the season.

for those of you, natasha!, who like to celebrate Christmas longer,
singers begin enjoying the lovely Christmas music in august!

choir members experience sweet camaraderie from the challenge of a
new and difficult song.  we laugh at our hilarious mistakes, and our
spirits soar when we have learned to sing the music as beautifully as
we had hoped.

even the shyest of creatures cannot be lonely in a choir, because the
esprit de corps automatically enfolds everyone.

this lovely lady is 84 years old and sings like an angel.  she's also
sitting by an angel.

love,
lea

Well, dear Lea, I would love to and in heaven when I have that perfect voice, I will sing in the heavenly choir. My husband and kids are the ones who sing, write music and all of that, I am the only mommy in the world I think, that when the babies got old enough to talk when I sang lullabys would pat my mouth and say, in their tiny voices, " Mom, don't sing." I sing to the chickens and the dogs and when I am out in the garden by myself.
I bet you have a pretty voice and I am glad that someday in heaven,
we can sing together. :)

Honey how strange I found you on my site today because this morning I tried coming to yours and it would not open for me. But when I clicked on your site from your lovely comment it came up. Sometimes I wonder if it's me or the computer.
Glad I got here tonight and read this post. You might be right about this because I have a precious Sister-in-law who has sung forever in the choir at church and she is the same size she was when her and my brother married many many years ago.
Darn why wasn't I blessed with a singing voice. People actually prefer that I just move my lips and not sing outloud. hahaha
Love this post

What a lovely post!! You know that's my job...getting people to sing, so I wholeheartedly agree with you:-) I am getting ready to start our Christmas music this month, plus the weekly music, so I already told them to be ready to work!!

I agree totally. We sing all of the time in our house. Even my husband, who cannot carry a tune in a bucket, sings at the top of his lungs whenever the radio plays. Carla

I can wholeheartedly agree with this. Some of my favorite times are singing with others and making harmony. "I'd like to teach the world to sing...."

I really miss singing in a choir--I sang in one all through high school, college and many years of married life. The church we go to now does not have a choir but we do stand and sing for long periods of time--so maybe I get a little of that benefit you describe.

But I wholeheartedly agree--it is an awesome experience!

I don't sing very well, and have never been in a choir. But your post makes it sound like a lot of fun! I do like to sing, and usually sing when I'm by myself. I'm looking forward to my heavenly voice too. :)

I love the idea of singing in a choir, but I doubt a choir would have me! XX!

We don't have a choir in our church anymore and I miss it so much! We do worship music, but honestly, I think there is NOTHING like hearing a choir sing!! I do think there is room for all kinds of music in the church, but not having a choir leaves a hole.

The church we were in before we moved from Dallas had the whole choir coming down from a high balcony on both sides as the service began, singing MAJESTY!! Boy do I miss that!!

Dear Lea,
I love to sing in the choir. I belonged to one for years. LOVED it! Miss it so. Would love to hear your choir sing.

Our local church doesn't have a choir ... so I'm using the chocolate solution with the expected results :-)

It breaks my heart to see how many churches no longer have choirs. Praise teams are great, but a really good choir can't be beat.

I adore to sing...it's one of my favourite things to do. Only problem is I have a terrible voice! Not that this stops me from sharing my "gift" with my family. I love that Carpenter's song "Sing a song"..."don't worry if it's not good enough for anyone else to hear, just sing...sing a song". Meredy xo.
p.s. love the whole weight loss aspect:)

Are you kidding me? That beautiful gal is 84? Incredible!

I loved singing in the choir, but alas, my voice has dropped to the floor. It must be allergies or something...the very thing that stole my Nan's sweet voice. She used to sing on the radio and sang many solos in church. I've only done that once and was so petrified that I never did it again.

I'd love to hear your choir and you singing!

I believe it! I love to sing
though I don't sing well or on
key if I try to sing too loudly.
I always make sure I keep the
music much louder than my voice,
then my husband (who does sing
well) doesn't have to put his
hands over their ears!

Hi Lea,
So sweet of you to check in, it made my day. Thank you!

We are still here, trooping along. This summer, the weather in MN has been wonderful. A good swimming summer, so I have been trying to enjoy all that sun right along with my kids.

I also found out in August, that I am going to be hosting a wedding reception in our backyard. As it involves the two most beloved families in our church, the entire congregation is invited. They are estimating about 300 people, and while most days I am calm and excited, some days I tend to run around like a chicken with my head cut off, starting a project here, another one there, one over here, and one over there. My hubby has been working as many hours as he can, so I am solo for now. It will all work out, and I just keep trying to say that I am getting a jump start for next spring, when my oldest daughter will graduate from high school (sniff, sniff).

I will try and get a post up soon, and I will have to catch up with everyone now that I have my computer back! Thanks for your sweet words! You are a sweet angel just like those you pictured!

Love this...it has been years since I have heard a choir and since my husband was in all those Christmas programs. My sister-in-law at 70 still sings in choir, along with her husband of 72.
There is a lot to be said about that...my kids don't remember choirs..sad.
Now we all burst out in song around the house

Lea dearest....Your sweet comments today just made my heart swoon BUT DEAR....who is worthy? Jesus and only Him is the SOURCE OF OUR CREATIVITY...we try, we attempt, and in that endeavor, we almost reach....think of the day when we shall see HIM! Keep on creating dearest....He made us in His image...ever wonder why when we create we feel so good? I wonder....maybe we are dabbling in a God thing....anyhow, you are so right here in your post....singing, dancing, drawing, anything that causes us to CREATE has us engaged in what humans were meant to do.

Thank you for your lovely visit today! Blessings, Anita

Simply lovely post, Lea, and wonderful advice. We all need to laugh, every day, to encourage someone, every day, to read the Good Book, every day and most of all, every day we need to pray. All the above centers us and keeps us women after God's own heart.

Awww...I love this post. I sing around the house all the time but perhaps sharing voices would be magical!

You gave me a lot of food for thought here.

Thank you.
