with what feature do you lead?

i just finished tracy chevalier's remarkable creatures and found it
to be unremarkable but loved the perceptive introduction of her
characters.  she maintains that ones leading feature reveals ones
dominant characteristic.

her protagonist, mary anning, "leads with her eyes. . . that are
button brown and bright, and have a fossil hunter's tendency to
look for something."  her father enters with "his sharp, shapely
nose pinning her to the spot like a dart."

the heart breaker of the book, colonel birch, has such a thick,
wavy head of hair that he is always bowing to show it off.   "i
have never trusted a man who leads with his hair."

i lead with the proverbial big toe, testing the temperature of the
water before i jump in.

when we were newlyweds, we had no idea how many children
we wanted.  we took them one at a time and enjoyed them so
much, they just kept right on coming.  we have been visiting a
rustic colorado mountain town for 25 years and cherish every
visit.  my husband has asked me many times if i would like to
have a home there, but i have declined.

but, four or five years ago, i agreed . . . to a tiny condo on the
side of the mountain to just put in my big toe.  it has been the
most joyful experience since having all those babies, so now we
have built a cabin on the top of a ridge, surrounded by the
mountains we love.  i guess we have jumped in with both feet.

"how lovely on the mountains are the feet of them who bring
good news."   isaiah 52:7

with what feature do you lead?

love,
lea

That sounds Wonderful! I love the mountains! I really don't ever want to visit Disney again, just give me a beach or a mountain range and I am so go to go!
I love God's amazing creations!

ENJOY your time there. I really cannot say, in all honesty, that I am not jealous! :)

Great question-What do I lead with? I am going to think about that today, and comment later.

I like to think I lead with my brain, but sometimes that's a bad thing because my head talks me out of too many fun things.

Enjoy your trip. The mountains will be a wonderful escape from the heat of summer!

Blessings,
Margaret

Oh I'm so glad that you said "yes" to that one! It sounds like pure delight.

Hmmm, you've left me wondering what I lead with...probably my mouth. Yup, I enter a room mouth first. Ackkk!

What a delight... I long for a mountain retreat someday; actually, I'd love to live in the mountains. Alas, we're in the flatlands of NC (is that possible) and unless he changes conferences, I imagine I won't live near any mountains for the next 20 years or so. But, there is coming a day... yes indeed, when a mountainview will be mine for always.

Enjoy.

My husband and I got married in Vail, Colorado 25 years ago. It was so beautiful! So I can understand your love of a place in the mountains. Enjoy this special time away!

I think I lead with my heart and sometimes it gets me into trouble when my brain catches up. :)

Blessings,
Debbie

I lead with my smile. I truly smile at people all day long ~ it really gives me a lift, and sometimes, it gives a lift to others, too. Not that I'm the big old Cheshire Cat when I'm doing chores around the house ~ I'm not that much of a smiler ~ but, I would say that's how I "lead!" What a wonderful dream you are realizing with your Colorado place. I hope you will post pictures along the way. My dream is to have a cottage on the water, someday. Have a wonderful trip! xx Suzanne

It is an interesting concept, to lead with only one feature and not with one's whole being.

May you have a wonderful time away and enjoy the fruit of your labors there in God's splendorful (word?) creation!

What a lovely place for a cottage!
Enjoy your beautiful place...:)
I might lead with what's in my heart & mind...which probably comes out of my mouth! God is still working on me...:) A work in progress!!

What a great post. I usually lead with my imagination...even though that is not a tangible feature. My husband says I can go from zero to imaginary crisis in 0.2 seconds. I think I'm a bit quicker off the mark to be truthful!

I love that you are getting your toe wet with the vacation home!

How fantastic.. to have a little condo in the mountains.. fresh air.. beautiful views and relaxation .. wonderful..

What do I lead with .. hmm hard to say... I am an over thinker.. but then again.. I also have to 'do' before I decide... so I guess I lead with my hands..

Have a great weekend and 4th July.. xxx Julie

I've been thinking of this all day and decided that I lead with a laugh. I'm not really a giggly person, just joyous I guess.

Those mountains bring back great memories for me ... I used to go to Colorado a couple of times a year for work and maybe 20 years ago visited a family retreat up in the mountains overlooking a lake. That cemented my dream, I just had to get my house in our mountains. Originally I planned on a weekender but it became my home.

And last but not least I love that verse but usually think of it in the KJV " How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace." I guess because I hope to one day make my living in the mountains through my pen ... well actually for the past twelve months I have but via the corporate world.

So today's post hit lots of my delight buttons ... says she with a laugh.

With what feature do you lead? I guess my smile. :)

And I can wave to you from my little cottage in the woods in the CO mountains! It truly is a wonderful life!

Have fun!

Hmm, interesting concept. I'll have to think about that for a while, mull it over a little.

I did find it amusing though, the line about never trusting a man who leads with his hair. Ha! That's just good funny. :)

In the meantime, while I mull over what I lead with, enjoy those beautiful mountains! Enjoy them for me! I could really go for that kind of fresh air! And of course, enjoy all of the not cooking. :)

I love living in the mountains and hope never to have to live in the flatlands again. But, if I have to live in the flatlands again, I'll take my happiness with me -smile-.
Colorado is beautiful and I've always wanted to visit Telluride; it seems just about perfect...from the outside looking in - smile-.

I'll respond on my comments but my primary read right now is Pillars of the Earth and then will follow up with World Without End. There are a few others I'm reading but those two are the primary reads.

Are those your feet? Or Hailey's? Is that picture of the mountains a scene from your cottage window? I don't know what I lead with. I'll ask my kids and see what they say. Enjoy your time and be refreshed body, mind and spirit. Will miss you.

Lea,
After spending the last 30 something years in Colorado - I am pining for a visit. My move to AR a year ago to care for dad has made me feel displaced. I love my Colorado. I am so pleased for you that you have made this decision to build a cute little cottage in the lovely mountains. Good for you! Colorado will always be HOME for me.

I'd love it if you posted some pictures of those mountains!!

Yes I remember this post from last time. I love Colorado and its beautiful mountains.

What a vivid way to capture the movement & motives behind one's dreams. I've lived out many of my own leadings, though some beckon still.

I just have to say it's my heart that either swells or retreats at a prospect. I don't always follow it's inclinations (sometimes it's misguided), but it definitely has a leading voice. And, most often, when my heart is at home, so am I.

Beautiful post, and a beautiful landscape to call "home".

How lovely to have a cottage there! And I think as I am almost six feet tall, that my frame does the leading for me, wether I want it to or not. (My daughter just informed me that all the people in town were intimidated by me.)

Enjoy those mountains!

We have been missing the mountains...it's been over six years for us. Next year we will show the little one what its all aboout.

I never saw this one...I hope the summer was great in that cabin...I thought of you often as we suffered in these 100 plus degrees.

What do I lead with...oh it is my mind, which is horrible at times...as my husband says, "can't you turn it off sometimes?"

Blessings on all the memories that will be made for years to come in your cabin.
