together we save

http://togetherwesave.blogspot.com/

i remember the early days of our marriage, when we were poor
as little church mice but just as happy.  we celebrated the end of
each week by splitting a fried clam dinner at howard johnson's
in white plains, vermont.   woo hoo!

our dear friends, the only other married couple at dartmouth,
were even poorer than we were.  it used to break my heart to
go to the grocery store with her, because she had to be so very
careful with her nickels and dimes.  one time she just burst into
tears as we pulled out of the parking lot.

i have noticed some sweet young brides in blog land who
could use a little boost, too, so here is the magic solution to
help you pinch those pennies.

just click on the link above for the"togetherwesave" blogsite, and
you will be amazed at all the savings this precious and industrious
young woman has made available to us.  if you follow her site,
you will be informed 3-4 times daily of happy ways to stretch your
dollars.

"her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value."

Oh, how wonderful of you to share that link.

I remember struggling after my husband died and I had a little girl to raise. I love it when people share ways to save money.

I am always looking for bargains too, although I don't have to pinch my pennies quite as much as I used to. But why spend more?

My favorite "broke newlywed" story was told to me by a WWII bride. They couldn't afford a serving bowl, so they use the kitchen overhead light glass cover instead. Slipped it back up after dinner...

The couple are VERY well off now...

Oh, I remember those days of living on love alone. John and I were both beginning teachers and lived on next to nothing. We only got paid once a month and found out that it ran out too quickly. We rented an old house that was super cold in the winter and super hot in the summer. We used to say that we would look back and laugh about it one day.....and we do! Carla

What a wonderful thing to share not only with young brides but with those that seek to be frugal when it seems like life is telling you to spend, spend, spend. On my way to check it out! Thanks for sharing.

Great idea, and I'll hop over to visit her.

As to your 'mission field'... ours is similar... not within the confines of the church, but our world includes many unsaved, and it's always SUCH an encouragement to see what God opens up in conversations, just as yours last night. If we're available, He's going to do it! (and btw... one of my all time favs is a blouse that's now about 15 years old... it never loses it style! :))

Hugs!

I've been married for 32 years, but we can always save a little! We were poor, too, married when my husband was still in school and we had a baby on the way! We had a little scrubby Christmas tree, and I bought a string of lights and a box of glass balls. My husband got me an umbrella - I had to work on the campus of Texas A&M and had to walk several blocks to my office and needed one when it rained! He wouldn't even let me get him anything! We still had a little help from the folks, but those were some of the sweetest and happiest days of our lives!

I'll check out this blog! Why spend more when you don't have to? We're trying to cut back. At this stage of our lives, WHY DID WE EVER THINK WE HAD TO HAVE "MORE" WHEN WE WERE YOUNG??? We're finding that we need much less than we think we do! Thank you very much!

Ahhh, you have a very kind husband indeed. That is delightful that he is interested in what you are up to...tell him that we could definitely hook him up with a "groovy blog site" as well...;D...

Yes, we too were on such a budget when we were first married. I often smile at this memory. My dear, dear mother would often drop off diapers, laundry soap, and much more. But you know, that was a great education as well...I learned to budget and watch my pennies... and make kraft dinner many, many different ways. We had a gorgeous garden,in which I took great pride in keeping well weeded and watered...God was so good and we were closer to Him for this experience.

Love in Him, Rosie

It's so important for us to teach our kids how to spend wisely and save for the future. Many young people are sadly lacking in this respect.
Thanks for the link. As you know, I also have a book dedicated to this very subject.

What a kind post to those young brides out there! We were poor at the beginning too, which makes an easier financial life even sweeter. I wouldn't trade those days for the world...

It was not hard to organize my "Friday Pretties" party, it just took a lot of my time, but it was well worth it. It was so much fun!

I am going to do it again, probably this coming week, with a little more notice. I just ran out of extra time this week.
I hope you join in. Let me know... :)

Dear Lea,

Did I tell you that that is my name real name with "h" at the end? Thanks for visiting my Random Notion blog.

Yes, I have somewhat a rather chaotic schedule with chaotic mind with so much on my plate. On top of that, I have been having problem posting comments that I just gave up. However, tonight (it's morning over there, wink) it looks like my comment is going to pull through in this particular blog on "together we save".

I am a single mom raising two girls on my own since they were little until they left the nest, and I can definitely relate to your
friend's plight.

That experience has truly helped me learn to manage life without compromising our health in general.

The only consolation in my time with my girls was, there were many who were far worse off than we were.

So, we are really very thankful with our life with due credits to Him above.

Now, am a converted brand new grandma and it is a reward being acknowledged by my children who are facing their own life's challenges with much encouragements from me or with each other.

Thanks once again. If I get a chance coming to the computer, I'll try to visit you.

What a sweet story, and thank you for the link. My mom lives in Burlington Vermont, and I pass by that area on the way to visit her. When my husband and I were first married, we too pinched pennies and I remember that chapter as such a lovely one too. I remember our first wedding anniversary and we didn't have money to go out. So, I too out my wedding dress and hung it from the armoire in our bedroom, and made a special dinner. As I remember it was the most romantic anniversary we ever had.

Thanks for prompting such lovely memories with your writing.

I don't know anyone who pinches pennies tighter than me. Honestly, Lea, your eyes would pop if I told you what we were living on.

There is a trick to it, but in my opinion, it isn't so much about coupons or sales or adding noodles to stretch a meal.

It is in knowing the difference between need and want. God provides us with everything we need. And when we understand this, we become instantly rich.

I think in these tough economic times, we all could use a boost! I keep telling my husband, these are actually good times as we can better appreciate the hard work that goes into his earning a dollar for our family. Things used to be a lot better a couple years ago, health insurance has been killing us, but we are so fortunate to have it! And this economy has made me more creative!
