there's something niggling around in my brain.  it's so empty in
there, it's more like a rattling, really.

a couple of months ago, i wrote about warning kids of the dangers
in hanging with the cool kids, and someone commented that the
cool factor is in blog land, too.  at first i thought she was kidding,
i mean, doesn't a cool blog kind of sound like an oxymoron?

there are some, though, that are sort of inaccessible to the rest of
us.  i visit them, because, well, they're just so darn cool, but rarely
leave a comment, as that would sort of be like ellie mae clampett
leaving her calling card for karen walker.

in my mind these women are all dressed in stella mccartney, listening
to paul mccartney, and gossiping about heather mccartney.  how
surprising when one of them posted a photo of herself!

i was expecting audrey hepburn, but instead the poor old thing
looked a lot like . . . me.

now i'm no great shakes to look at, as evidenced by the fun
dolphin photo.  well, that is actually the 'after' photo.  the
dolphins threw a fit when they saw how gorgeous we were.

they were all "take off that make up, slick back your hair, stuff
your wet suits to make you look chubby, and squint your eyes!"
so insecure.

the point is, it's more fun to be ourselves and try not to judge,
"for in the same way you judge others, you will be judged."
matthew 7:2

i'm feeling bad about the stuff i said about the dolphins.   they
were really super nice.

love,
lea

I love this post! I know exactly where you're coming from, and I have felt that same type of 'oh wow, they just look normal'... I appreciate your posts so much and look forward to your updates!

sincerely,
Ellie Mae ;)

Oh Lea, you are so funny, good thing about those dolphins, that they wanted that make up off. :) It is a lovely picture by the way. I suppose blog land is like that, yes there are the really techno savvy blogs and others as well, but I think the bottom line with bloggers is the sweetness factor. I have yet to meet a fellow blogger that would not tell you how to fix your blog, or how to take a picture or even give you free stuff. I think even the Audrey Hepburn kind would give you
the world. This has only been my experience and I am so new to blogging maybe I am Pollyannaish.
But you have made me ponder and I like to ponder things. I think you made some very nice points though.
Yay for Lea!

I really enjoy your blog, and read it often...
Pretty amazing how much we think alike..I have met some awesome folks on here. But I have yet to get 35 comments for a store bought poem...LOL
I know where you are coming from...unfortunately. We are mostly women on here, and therefore we may tend to form cliques..I am not in one tho.
It's as crazy as high school, this blogland...it are...it are.
sigh!

Hahahahaha...you nut! Oops! Is that judging? Same story here. There are some blogs that are just so cool. I, of course, must visit, but I dare not say "boo."

Hello dear friend! Thank you for coming to check up on Mrs. Robinson the bird on my blog!!!!! And, I have to agree with you on your post! It is just good to be YOU. I surely can't be anyone else, with all the frills and such; I post a lot of dreamy images, and if I had a better camera, I would post pics of myself, but it's just easier to find images on GOOGLE!!!

Thank you for the visit. Anita

What a great post with lots of truth. I love to visit an assortment of different blogs. There are times when I think a blogger is so popular and must be something really special. But then they share something about themselves that reminds me they're just like me ...with warts or scars or whatever.

Your writings tell me your heart is beautiful!

Hm...I had never thought about the possibility of "cool" blogs... in the sense of any being untouchable. But there truly are so many amazingly cool bloggers, in the sense that they have great things to share, are so friendly and fun to get to know through their posts...such as yours :o)

Now, I only wish I had more blog reading time! I really try not to be on too much when my hubby is home, but then that time is limited by my work hours too! *sigh*

Blessings & Aloha!
(thank you for stopping by! ...oh one more thing, I think your dolphin photos are awesome :o) even with the wet, slicked back hair and no makeup...hm...this is often how I look right after I get home from work and jump straight into the shower! and rush over to our couple's Thursday night bible study!)

You amuse me Lea but reality bites. Please don't feel bad that I was not able to leave comments in the past. I am still experiencing techno problem in regards to leaving comments to some. I can't even do it in my own.

I have an exciting family news for you.

By the way, I am very glad I can leave comment in yours.

So true, so true! I have dared to leave a comment on some of those "cool blogs" every once in awhile and am always startled to get a response. And I do get responses from them. Well thought out responses that tell me they actually read their comments and care, and that is probably another factor in how and why they are so "cool".

Hanging out with the dolphins, now that is cool!

My favorite blogs are ones like yours, where the writer is open and honest--sharing a bit of herself all along, inspiring us, and keeping us amused with stories we can all relate to.

Now that's a "cool" blog!

I enjoy the interaction in blogland. I like to know my blog buddies' names and I enjoy emailing responses to their comments and visiting their blogs.

Many of the super blogs don't offer me that interaction. They're too big to make the rounds and too busy to email responses.

Lea, I really enjoy it when you add applicable bible verses to your posts. It feeds my soul. Thanks for doing it!

Thank you for visiting and leaving the lovely comment at the Spoonful blog.
It's so nice here.. I just read a few of your posts and I love your blog.
I do the same thing with the cool blogs.. I am in such awe that I rarely leave comments and sometimes wonder if I... am good enough to be here.

oh, heck with em..

Count me in as a follower. Thanks for introducing yourself. : )

I hope I have blogs that make people feel welcome to visit and leave comments. I would hate to have an 'exclusive' cool blog.

Judging is "to form an opinion or estimation of after careful consideration". Caveman not want fight sabertooth barehanded kind of stuff.

It is more fun to be ourselves and to keep an open mind, but I do judge. I don't want to be around cliques or so-called "cool" people who treat others poorly.

Even dolphins are wary of sharks.

The good thing is that we don't have to see the cool kids like when you are in school. We can keep them out of your reader :)

What a very cute post today! I suffer from Ellie Mae syndrome at times too!!! ha ha
Hope you have a very nice Sunday.

Hmmm...interesting...I have sometimes thought this too. If I find a blogger who isn't friendly I tend not to follow them anymore. There are so many nice bloggers like your beautiful self who I would much rather visit! Does that make me a mean girl? Hope not!

Best wishes for a beautiful weekend Lea.
Natasha.

Hello dearest! Thank you for such a lovely comment! Oh, teaching is the most incredible job. It keeps you on your toes, it makes you laugh, cry, reflect and grow. It is much like being a mom, I suppose!!!

Have a fabulous day! Anita

Emily, When I said "a few, good blogs" I wasn't trying to be uppity. I follow a lot of WONDERFUL blogs - don't have time for all I'd like to follow more closely! I've found wonderful general ones, some garden ones, a few thrifty fashion ones, etc. I've just had difficulty finding some that are primarily decorating ones that feature my style. When there are SO many possibilities out there, I like to hone in on a few in each of the categories I'm interested in....

I have had exactly the same feelings as you've expressed in this post. But the insecurity is on my part. I've yet to meet an unfriendly blogger :)

I sort of feel that Europeans have a pretty good lock on having the "Coooooooool Blogs." Yes? No? Maybe?

But then, my idea of "Cool" may be different from your idea of "Cool." -giggles-

Auntie sezzzzzz... said...

Guess I should have called that.... "Too Cool." Because they aren't necessarily warm & fuzzzy... Those cool blogs I'm thinking of. Kind of like they live in a different sphere from me. Etc. :-)

I read a post a couple of months ago about how there seems to be a social structure in blogland, too. Funny, isn't it, when we don't necessarily see pictures and yet we pick up on clues?

Julie@beingRUBY said...

Hi Ellie Mae.. oh I mean Lea!!
In reality we are all Ellie Maes don't you think... your posts always crack me up!!! You know i think the 'too cool' thing is not about the blog content, nor how stylish the blogger is.. but more about interacting with other bloggers... lucky for us there are so many great blogs out there and great bloggers... xx Julie

I beg to differ- you are quite beautiful! And probably the coolest blogger I know. And a wonderful person all around. And someone I am extremely glad to have in my life!

This was such a fun and clever post...really wish I knew who your were talking about...but truthfully, it really doesn't matter, as the humor here just transcends!

Well, I for one think you are very cool Lea. And for the dolphin photo, love it!

Leigha said...

I love this post. I think of this often, imagining those impressive bloggers typing away in stilettos and a statement necklace, surrounded by a chic office and Kate Spade desk accessories. Three cheers for sweat pants! Smile.
P.S. No tears for the dolphin photo, it's lovely.

I think you have one of the "coolest" blogs out there, Lea. I can totally relate to your reluctance to comment on some blogs but am thankful you consider me to be "normal" like you since you are always so faithful to comment on my ramblings. I just returned from a week's vacation and had over 100 blog entries sitting in my Reader. I'm still getting caught up but want you to know your thoughts are always a priority for me when I'm that far behind as I feel like I'm hearing from a dear friend. Thanks for continuing to share your life and wisdom.
