so long, louboutin!

hallelujah!!!  the only good sign of the shaky economy is that
8 inch stilettos are OUT and 1.5 inch 'kittens' are IN.

not that i ever wore the incredibly leg lengthening louboutins,
but i was tempted for a second and thought about asking for a
pair for last year's anniversary.   until i tried on some.

it brought back memories of having my blood drawn.   the
rubber band around my arm and needle in my vein was not
nearly as uncomfortable as squeezing my feet into the torturous
stiletto.

stiletto:  classic italian switchblade with an automatic trigger.
uh huh.  and both made by men, reminiscent of chinese foot
binding.

having made the painless decision not to wear them, i was surely
diminished by  the other girls who  did.   i was frumpy  by any
standard in my puny pumps, but the playing field has now been
equalized.

leg by leg . . . or shoe by shoe.

"vanity, vanity, all is vanity!" ecclesiastes 1:1

love,
lea

I'm so relieved to find out that I'm back in style... short heels and all.

Louboutins? That's a new one for me. I rest my case.

Don't know much about those spiked shoes...just a little about prayer. Lets pray for Andrea and her friend.
I’ve enjoyed looking over your blog. I came across it through another blog I follow, and I’m glad I did. I am now a follower of yours as well. Feel free to look over my blog and perhaps become one as well

Hey, girl. I bought some stilettos one time - ONE TIME - just for my husband. Did not wear them out of the house EVER. Killed my feet. Felt like a real stiletto stabbing into the balls and arches of my pore feet. He's just gonna have to live with the memory. Sorry, hon.

A Gopher in Stilettos! Now THAT would be a photograph to end all photographs!!! haha!

What is it about a beautiful shoe that we are willing to put up with major torment to our poor feet? I want to design beautiful and comfortable shoes someday!

Hi Lea!!
Well I did wear just this sort of thing for many years... strangely I always found it easier out dancing till the wee hours than just going to work... no sensible shoes for work!!! Actually sensible shoes all round these days.. my arches seem to have gone out in sympathy with the falling economy!!! hahaha

Have a lovely week my friend.. xxx Julie

Are those ridiculously high stilletos really, really, going away? Praise God!

Cute post. Heels are not my thing. Never will be! On a serious note, I'll say a prayer for Andrea. I'm going over there now to see what she needs. Carla

I still have a weakness for those kind of heals but I know I would fall off. I can tell they gave you that come hither look. :)
Thank you for your kind comment about our house. You are so sweet.
But like your verse says, vanity, vanity all is vanity.
Have a great day.

I used to love wearing silletos but those days are long gone ... silly things they were always getting stuck in grates and cracks in the pavement. Anyway, it's now flat flat flat shoes for me ... my back can bearly cope with heels an inch high.

Smiling right now, both at the picture and at the thought of trying to balance on those things! I do remember them, but not for long... I think I tried them once or twice. Love how they look, but apparently my vanity in that area is ok... :D

as to 'bits and pieces'. I'm sure you've got some good ones. I think I'm reading your 'bits and pieces' each week... keep sharing!

I don't do pantyhose and I don't do heels so I'll probably never be completely in style again! lol

I always said the real talent of the Miss America candidates is that they walk around stage in those high heels.

I love kitten heels. I can't do heels over 2-1/2 inches, and I prefer to keep them under 2. Life's too short to have feet that hurt.

And on a more serious note, I'm praying for Andrea's friend, Mary Grace.

Oh, this is good, and I had to smile! I feel most comfortable in a 3" heel, and even a 4" heel that fits perfectly enough... but that's as far as I'll go! Any higher, and I'm SURE I'll twist or break an ankle! ~tina

When I was younger...Definitely prefer comfort now, but I do still like some style and I hope I always will!

My sister and I always come out ready for the day, when we are together, and have on the same thing. Now, we just look at each other and ask who's turn it is to change this time. Other times, we just go as is. I Love that special connection!

Just today I tried on a pair of heels just to see how they felt (miserable!). For the past three yrs I've only had flats on... I use having to run after my toddler as an excuse. Good to know about the changing wave!

Lovely post, made me laugh out loud. I feel exactly the same way, even though they are so so feminine. I do not even have a single pair of those high high highies... Flats please, in all kind of colors.
Have a happy day, Lea. xoxo

Oh I am glad that good sense won out. (I've not worn heels since 2005 and it was a very long miserable evening. I did wear kitten heels to my own wedding in 08, but even they do not compare to my beautiful red flip-flops. ;> ) Oh, yes, Happy Labor Day!

I don't really care what they say! I just want the shoes!!! I love them!

-giggles- Just how do you stand, in those shoes, pictured? Don't you have to keep rocking back and forth or something? Yikes!

Sure, I love to see them worn. Sure, I'd love to be able to wear them. But also sure... Are they out of their freakin' minds?!?

myletterstoemily said...

oh dear! for the fashionistas, i didn't
mean to pretend that those old shoes
are louboutins.

just high heels for a pic.

Yay! Common sense make a comeback!

Seriously, I knew a woman who had to have surgery on her feet because they got so messed up from wearing heels. It is not natural to be in that position. I don't know how all those Hollywood people wear them all the time.

I own two pairs of shoes right now ... one pair of sneaker and one pair of Crocs.

Amen! I can't wear or walk in tall shoes! I'm a kitten-heel or flats girl myself!

LOL Oh my goodness. I can not imagine wearing stilettos. Isn't it true. Vanity is vanity!! :) I will stick to much shorter heels myself.

Ah, I'm sure you're far from frumpy in your foot gear. At this stage in the game, all I care about is comfort. I don't even notice the latest styles anymore...
