this little light of mine...

dear emily,

don't you love "charlie brown's Christmas?"  charlie is moping
around for the true meaning of Christmas, and linus sums it up
quite nicely.

"there were shepherds abiding in the field . . ."

can you imagine a contemporary cartoon referring to the angel's
visitation of the shepherds?  it makes me very sad that children
have so few encounters with 'the babe' in our world.  the light
has grown very dim here.

that's why i'm so grateful to the hobby lobby and mardel stores
for purchasing an advertisement that still warms my heart.

john 1 says "the light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has
not understood it."  we can make our homes illuminators to our
children's hearts by loving them, reading the scriptures to them,
and telling stories of His wonder in our lives.

psalm 104 says, "He wraps Himself in light as with a garment." i
would love to wrap that garment around my children and protect
them from all darkness.

...i'm gonna let it shine,
lea

ps.  go to pj's to see some amazing lights!

I love that! A few days ago, while traveling . . . I had to run into a restaurant (ahem) powder room to add stockings to my ensemble. ;) The nearest one was Farmer Boys. Do you have them? This was in Los Angeles . . . anyway . . . they had a sign on the wall, just as one entered, proclaiming the Gospel message! Thrilled to see that! I tell you! Just thrilled!

So sweet Lea, My son has been playing that song on the piano all week. It sounds so pretty and that Charlie Brown Christmas story was my first exposure to the story of Jesus.
I was 10 years old before I heard it and when Charlie Brown listens to Linus, I got the Bible off the Mantel and found it and Memorized it myself because I loved it so much. Thanks for sharing that and having it trigger that memory.

I'm loving that business people, companies and corporations are willing to share their faith in the marketplace. It's happening more and more.

Honey how strange you came by tonight because I was just thinking about you and wanting to come over here before I shut down the computer for the night. Isn't that funny how that happens to us.
So happy I did visit. This is a blessing to read a post like this.
I love it and you too

Lea ~ for that very reason I support Hobby Lobby as often as I can... and I love that simple Charlie Brown Christmas cartoon.
I agree, children these days see and hear so little of the true meaning of Christmas. Thankfully, as parents, we can still teach them about Him.

I haven't seen Hobby Lobby's ad yet but I will be looking for it. I'm like several of your readers in that I support them for their obvious stance for Christian standards.

Thanks for your reminder that we all need to be shining His light in the darkness. Your blog is bright beacon!

who doesn't love that Charlie Brown story? and yes... the light has grown dim here, so I am firmly with you in being thankful for Hobby Lobby & Mardel.

My little Vietnam girls where I get my nails done play a background tape from Hobby Lobby of very soft CHRISTIAN music which plays in H.L. stores. The girls have no idea they are proclaiming the gospel through their music. It makes me smile. One of the girls is now a christian, but the others have no clue about Jesus or the music that celebrates Him. and yet it fills the place each time I go there and I hum right along! :)

Lea, enjoyed your mention of the "Light." Beautiful post.

I reviewed some of your past posts and news from Hailey in Brazil. Such great memories she will have. I'm glad to hear that she is safely home and trust she has had places and opportunities to share all that she experienced and learned during that time. Just yesterday she was on my heart and mind.

Blessings to you this Sunday evening.

Great ad. And I like your insight "telling stories of His wonder in our lives". The witness of Christian parents is a very powerful light.

Hide it under a bushel, no! I'm gonna let it shine. I love that song. The ad is wonderful. Whatever day we believe Christ was born, it's nice to be able to celebrate it once a year.

Yes I so love the Hobby Lobby paper ads and we also have Weirs Furniture Store in here Dallas.
I have posted them on our ref. more times than I can count.
It always delights my spirit to see companies pay to put the real message in major newspapers.

I am pulling out my Christmas books to go on my coffee table for us to read...I can't wait...I think I am the one who gets the most out of them every year!!

Oh the Bible in a four year olds eyes...he put paper cups in a circle and called me in to see the three wise man putting Joseph in the pit....LOL I think we will work on which Joseph was with the wise men. Too funny!!

Lea,
I love those full page ads that Christian retailers put out at Christmas! In our neck of the woods, Weir's has the top honor. It's always so well done and just heart piercing.

I always send a blessing with my son when he leaves me. He has a dangerous job and I worry constantly.

I guess you could say that I wrap him in the light of love.

That truly is a neat advertisement. It is sad to see how little the true story is told. I remember first hearing it in school...public school...no kidding.

I love this post! I have an ornament of Linus on stage where he recites the meaning of Christmas, just like the tv special. I hung it up this weekend and played it for myself. Such a good lesson and a great reminder!

Ha, LOVE that ad! I get a heck of a lot of joy when the world recognizes Jesus. You know what I mean, movie stars and department stores, that kind of stuff.

I hope you have the best Christmas ever, Ms. Lea. Give yourself a big hug from me. Wish I could be sitting next to you, sipping tea. But tis not meant to be. Maybe if Herbie would shell out the bucks so I could be a world traveler, but...he doesn't. What the heck is the matter with him?
